To all Zaino pros..

As spring is around the corner, I'm looking to get a good polish on my G, seems that Zaino is the one I'm going with.

Two questions:

Is the clay bar needed when the car is only 4 months old (winter)

and is Z5 really needed or should I just go straight to Z7 as someone has told me that black cars even have swirls when
the car is brand new.

Thanks
GBoy

Clay bar can do more harm than good if you aren't comfortable. Otherwise, it is very worth it. Even if your car is a day old. It picks up a buttload of contaminents coming over seas and by rail. Do the plastic baggie test and you will understand.

Z-7 is the car wash. I think you meant the Z-2. But you should always use a base coat of Z-5 even if your car is brand new and blemish free. I would put 2-3 coats of Z-5 on before you put on Z-2. It's all about protection.

Yeh after you get done that 'baggie' everything looks good.

Gboy: I've put on 3 coats each of Z-5 (first), then Z-2 with excellent results. They say clay baring is good, but I didn't bother. My paint felt good and was new when I Zaino'd.
Good luck bro.

Thanks guys for your response I was wondering if just using Z5 and that the shine would be the same, and the only
thing that Z2 would do would give it more durability...basically do you see more shine with finishing with Z2 or is it the same as finishing with Z5 .

Actually, Z-5 is more durable since it is thicker. Z-2 will shine much more than Z-5. Always end with a coat of Z-2.

Thanks for the heads up, will do the Z5 and finish with Z2, one last question, is that ZFX really needed, I am in no rush, put the stuff on and wait 24 hours is no big deal. But Zaino claims
a few things on their website about the ZFX, just wondereing if
it made a diffrence..

Well if you really can afford to have your car sit there for around 48 hours then don't go for it.... you can't drive it between layers so if you have a second car then you don't need ZFX

Thanks Red, I'm a fellow Canadian, did you use the clay bar?
Thought about putting on a layer one night, going to bed and doing another next day, but I see your point, guess I'm just plain lazy, want to streamline this job but want the perfect
shine and protection, so are you pleased with the Z product?

Actually with the cold I haven't had a chance to use it yet...but I did get the ZFX, I figure that I can do around 4 coats a day, including a wash, clay bar and touch up paint I think I'm going to lose my car for 2 days. As soon as it gets warm i'll let you know how it goes.

Re: To all Zaino pros..

Hi.

I suggest that every car get clayed before you put something like zaino on it. the reason is simple - zaino is going to show the true nature of the paint, and if there are things on it that need to be removed, then they are best removed.

id suggest the zfx also, but you can do a z1/z5 layer on day one -
the next day, rinse and dry the car (if it got dirty, otherwise you can dust and Z6 spray to clean it) - then a z2 layer can be applied . . .

if you want clearer instructions - in Canadian :; , feel free to email me and I can send you something i wrote up for customers . . .

Re: To all Zaino pros..

Well I Zaino'ed the car yesterday. First I washed it with dawn, then clayed (really made a difference), then I put on two layers of Z5 (with ZFX), then used the Z6 spray, then I put on one layer of Z2 (with ZFX), then Z6, then Z5 (no ZFX waited 4 hours), then Z6, then last layer of Z2 (no ZFX), let it dry over night then wiped it off and put last layer of Z6. I looks great with all the swirl marks and little scratches removed.

But I am very disappointed with the touch up paint from the dealer. The colour looked good during application but dried way too dark, I'd rather have the silver showing then the almost black on red that I have. Not noticeable from more than 5 feet away but any closer and the very front of the hood looks like [censored]. Also, I recommend NOT using the clear coat that comes with the pen from the dealer IF you are planning on waxing. It has a tendency to gush out on you so have something on hand to wipe it up before it hardens. I used it a couple times and it hardened so quickly and looks like you used nail polish as it's very hard to use little enough to cover only the small area of the touch up paint and really sticks out.

The rest of the car looks great though and was worth all the sore muscles today.
