I purchased a used HKS exhaust with titanium tips that have the burnt blue ends & I am currently polishing the entire exhaust back to an original shine. I would prefer to remove the blue from the tips entirely and just have them polished. Has anyone used blue job or blue away on titanium to remove the blue? I removed some but it took a ton of elbow grease and its still not entirely gone even in that small section. There has to be a better way or product to assist with this goal.
I have been using borla exhaust cleaner & polish & its worked great for everything else thus far. I have been using fine steel wool as well.
I accidentally hit a tiny little section of my burnt part with a dremel and mothers polish
Took it right off
You don't like the burnt tip look?
Ok, ill give that a shot, thanks.
It looks ok but personally i just like the straight polished look, its simple and clean. I have to polish them anyways to get rid of some melted plastic on the tips but if i ever want the colored tips i just have to bust out the blow torch and have at it. Thanks!
Saw some youtube video of a canadian girl that is a super welding expert. She shows how to make high end custom mototcycle exhausts out of titanium. She says industrial welding standards will reject welds if they're blue. Like it means something like you overheated the weld or something.
I used to work in a factory making Ti springs for aerospace. Out of the oven all Ti was blue/purple, caused by oxidation. The oxidized surface is brittle and will propagate cracks. Doesn't matter for an exhaust, but can cause failures in high load situations.
That's so weird. I didn't realize I responded to an ancient thread. I only look at new posts so don't see how I dug that up...
There was a new thread where someone polished the bluing off their newly acquired Motordyne cat-back. As Cleric suggests you probably infini-scrolled your way into this one from there.
