Little scratches???

Has it happened to anyone that when you look at you hood paint real close it looks like there are little scratches on the paint, could it be from the detailing place and can it come off by compounding it???

It happens from washing/wiping your car amongst other things. yes small scratchs can be removed by compounding. Post and search in the detailing thread for more information.

Be careful with what you use to buff / dry your car. G35's have very soft paint, so it can be scratched very easily from anything.

You may try what I did, that is to apply a polisher, then sealant, then later a wax.

ScratchX and a little elbow grease should take care of it, but as mentioned
above, i would not go too aggressive on polishing.

use polymer wax like NXT Techwax to cover up those swirls.

you can do natural wax after the NXT to give it even more shine.

Wow, stop..........

Don't even think about using compound it's way to
harsh for our paint. Meguiar's scratch X or Nu
Finish Scratch Doctor will do a good job for you. Be
sure to read and follow the instructions. And you can
do a search on this site to learn more about carcare.

Use several buckets of water. Be careful not to rub the paint w/ excessive dirt on surface......that is essentially where swirls come from.

The one big problem I have wih the G is its soft clear coat. Dam, it scratches easily. Because of that fact I would be very careful using compound on a G. It would be very easy to turn an almost inconspicuous scratch that can only be seen up close and in the right lighting, to an eyesore that's readily apparent. I would try to polish it out with a good polish and orbital polisher, and then follow-up with a good sealant. At minimum this process will greatly diminish the scratch, and with a little luck it could disappear.

So I see the recommendation about using a good polish with an orbital polisher (just bought one) but what about Meguiar's step 1 fine paint cleaner? Would this be alright. I just received a small and light scratch on my driver-side door. It's not deep but deeper than a swirl mark.

Thanks for any help.

Most items that advertise as paint cleaners are chemically based and thus will not help with scratches. I have found that, for light scratches, Menzerna FPII and Poorboy's SR1.0 work well for removal and require very little follow up polishing.

In the future, as others have said, being very careful with your wash and sealing technique can dramatically reduce the swirls.
