jack, I don't think it's a good Idea to start building until you have all the parts. you don't want to damage any of those new bearings by accident. I think its typical that engine builders gather everything first, test fit every piece, do a pre build, torque everything to spec and measure clearances, take it all apart, clean everything, then do the final build in a day in a controlled environment to keep out particles. Generally you want to do the final build as fast as you can because you lubricate pieces and if it sits to long the lube wears out and you need that in place for the break in period.

I'm sure you already knew this.. but if you need any help, I found a really good video on engine building that explained a lot of things for me.

So last night I decided I wanted to actually get my hands dirty and make use of the hair on my chest and do my suspension stuff with the help of CB..

First things first we go to take off a front wheel and WHAT DO YOU KNOW.... Three cross threaded lugs lol.. I figured they would be just because of how bad my luck is.

So we couldn't do the front bushings but we did do the rear camber kit.. It was fun, got greese all over me including in places where grease shouldn't have gotten but hey!! It was a good time...

Gotta buy some new studs on monday and we will finally do the bushings.

Thanks for your concern Rob, I only did the cam bearings because those are usually out of the way, I bought tons of assembly lube and I am also picking up some SAE 30 oil to keep everything nice and moisture free and then bagging when Im done.

Anyways these cam bearings are so particular the way they are installed Im pretty sure I got them in there perfectly. They were put in symmetrically and the oil galleys matched up pretty much on point... Not bragging or anything :P

oh wow, thats good... yeah I guess I'm just a bit overly cautious about some things. probably the reason it takes me forever to get anything done. plus I have no Idea about the LS, just know what I've seen with the VQ35DE

no prob, almost positive your buddy fried some rings on the side that the cat was clogged, you can't drive hard when you have a problem like that.

let me know how the compression check turns out.

Yeah nothing should be touching the cam shaft bearings until I actually put the cams in, I'll have to show the process, this book is awesome, I was also reading a rebuild with a bare block on gm high tech performance. Theres so much available information that instills more confidence than building a vq.
