Adjusting Clutch

Hello, I saw a post a while ago on how to adjust the clutch pedal's engagement point, but can not find it for the life of me. It mentioned something about removing the pedal and turning a fork a particular direction. Anyone done this? I've driven G35MT's car and hes done it, and now I can't wait! It's Sooooooo nice

Re: Adjusting Clutch

Yes Sir I did it too and what an improvement.. push to floor engage in 1".. I turned mine 5 revolutions... You will like it for sure... I launch so much faster and never get high rev vs engagement...

Re: Adjusting Clutch

FYI...I got my adjusted under factory warranty. I just told them the factory setting was set way to high. The tech didn't have any problems adjusted it for me.

Re: Adjusting Clutch

WOW... I did 6 turns and damn, this is by far the coolest mod i've ever done for any car. It's like having a short shifter for a clutch. I tell ya, it was a pain in the *** ... very small space to work in. If your goign to do it on your own, make sure when you remove the pin from the pedal to the fork, that it doesn't fly out into the fuse assenbly box. I did that and had to dissasemble the entire fuse box to get it out from under the damn carpet.

Re: Adjusting Clutch

Hey guys, for everyone that hasn't done this mod yet, I used a 15mm wrench to hold the fork in place. By doing this I was able to loosen the bolt on the back of the fork with a 12mm wrench and then turn the rod by hand. I didn't have to remove the pin or the clip to adjust. I did have to push the clutch in slightly to release tension on rod. I was afraid I was going to loose that pin too so I was looking for alternatives

Re: Adjusting Clutch

I performed this mod yesterday...FANTASTIC!!

I did not have to remove the pin, either...I braced the fork with a screwdriver and broke the 12mm bolt loose, turned 4 turns and retightened the bolt.

Re: Adjusting Clutch

Update: I was getting the tires unmounted/rotated/balanced at the dealership ($80) and also complained about the clutch pedal making a squeaky rusted spring noise when pressing the pedal all the way to the floor.
Well, i told the mechanic about the clutch pedal adjustment, this was the first that he's heard of it, then he went ahead and adjusted it 3 rotations for me. I tried it out and didnt notice too much of a difference. So then he adjusted it 2 more to give a total of 5 rotations (clock-wise)

All i can say right now is that wow, what a difference! This will take some getting used to, the clutch pedal height and rpm dropping is now perfect.

Oh, and no more squeaky spring noise!

I recommend this mod so far.... just give me a couple more weeks till i adjust to this, get more experience with it, and ill report back if any problems occur.

Re: Adjusting Clutch

Ok! I did it too! It took me forever! My wrenches were too big and oh my gosh the space is so tight! That's amazing that the guy on freshalloy was able to take such a good picture. I first tried for the first hour doing it without removing the fuse box and the extra foot pad. But I finally had to remove all of that stuff, then after that it was so much easier. I did about 5 turns. Feels real good now. As they mentioned, it almost feels natural.

IMPORTANT

IMPORTANT QUESTION, PLZ HELP

Guys, i think there is a problem with my car... i get this sweet smell coming from underneath the car, i can smell it from inside the cabin as well. It doesnt really smell like the clutch is burning, but it smells like something is burning, a sweet smell, i smelled the engine compartment and doesnt seem to be coming from there, man i hope this clutch adjustment isnt eating the synchros.

Does anybody know what that smell could be????
I smell it whenever i shift gears, whether be it 1st all the way to 4th, but hardly 5th and 6th.

Re: IMPORTANT

P.S. This occurs from normal driving, i am not trying to drive aggressively at all. I am pressing the clutch in all the way. I guess i should try to put the pedal back to stock....

Re: IMPORTANT

Try starting your car, but not driving it and see if the "smell" is still there.

This will tell you if it is from the engine or the tranny.

Usually, people that describe a "sweet" smell are actually smelling a coolant leak somewhere. Does it smell anything like burning antifreeze?
