Automatic Transmission flush
#18
ok, yall have me wanting to flush my fluid. i am almost to 36k miles. I race this car everyweekend with lots of spirited driving and using the paddles.
it looks like i need 10qts of the nissan j-matic fluid from mynismo($7.85) and is the nissan 75w-140 best for the rear diff?
joker, where is the return hose located that i need to pull off? or if you can give me a page number to look at in the factory service manual, that would work as well. thanks for the heads up from everyone, my tranny has been shifting a little off lately.

I have 50K on mine and am getting some delayed shifts... I'm going to have the trans flushed soon. I just bought the car though and I'm not sure what, if any service has been done to it. Not much I'm guessing based on the way the car seems to have been taken care of. Any problem having super lube do it, or should I take it to a mechanic, to the dealership, where at??

As for the return hose, if my memory is correct, it's connected to the lower part of the radiator, on the driver's side.

who has the cheapest price on the matic J fluid?
999mp-mtj00p part number
mynismo.com has the cheapest price after shipping @ 7.85 after shipping it comes out to be $10.50 a bottle x 6.
scottdale had a similiar price totaling $11 a bottle x 6 shipped.
I haven't called around the dealerships in my area yet but i figure it will be about $10 a bottle in my area.

A flush isn't necessary. The Nissan and Infiniti dealers in Kansas City don't do flushes with machines any more because the word from Nissan is it causes more problems. Additionally, all these shops say they simply drain the tranny every 30K miles even though Nissan really doesn't require a change until 60 or 70K miles.
A tranny fluid change will get you 3.1 QTs (measured myself). I didn't change my fluid until 60K miles. I bought 9 QTs of J-matic. Drained the tranny. Drove for 100 miles. Drained the tranny. Drove for another 100 miles. Drained the tranny. On every change, the fluid got pinker. Even after 60K miles and some decently hard driving on occasion, my G's fluid looked pretty good. I plan on draining the tranny every 30K miles and replacing with 3.1 QTs.
Note* If your G is shifting odd, replacing the fluid isn't going to fix the problem. There's something else going on.

drain and fill only gets about 30-40% of the fluid but yes it is the safest way to do things. a flush at 30k wouldn't be so bad but still there is no telling exactly what fluids are being put in.
a dealership has 1 machine to do the ATF flush. you poor the fluid in and it does its thing. if the car before you had matic F and you need matic J well your most likely getting a bit of matic F in your car because rarely do they clean out the system. Just something to think about. I've been around dealerships and even worked for two.
