That sounds more like a worn throwout bearing causing the noise, but the pedal being slack is a definite sign of either air in the lines, bad CMC, or bad CSC. Slight chance that the TO bearing kaboomed and is physically broken and thus the noise but it's usually VERY VERY obvious that you lost a TO bearing.

Yea I'm probably gonna just get all the clutch bits replaced sometime when I'm out of the Bay Area to save on labor. I'm shocked how cheap clutches are for these cars lol, definitely not used to it, as this is my first high-production-volume platform.

It does sound a bit like a much faster version of dead throwout bearings that whine at idle, but the complete silence below 4000rpm is very puzzling. Or maybe my hearing is bad (but I don't think it's THAT bad lol).

Thought I would try consulting the wisdom of the forums again...here's a recording of it. I fixed most of the weird exhaust rattles so this noise really stands out. It's louder than everything else. Most prominent around 5000rpm, dead silence from the clutch below 4500rpm. I get some pedal vibration but it could just be the engine's vibration.

I've driven the car a few thousand miles already and there have been zero issues so I am considering just leaving the clutch as is. The clutch bites very high but the internet seems to agree that's how it is from the factory.

Are you talking about that momentary sound at the top of the rpm band with the clutch in?

EDIT: Are you sure it's rpm related and not CLUTCH PEDAL related? Almost sounded like a squeaky pedal.

Yes, I held the pedal down and didn't move my foot, and revved the engine. The whining noise changes pitch with engine speed but only exists over 4500rpm.

Probably a worn throwout bearing, how many miles are on it?

Probably, it doesn't seem like anything else would be capable of making that sound. I have no idea how many miles are on it. It's just strange to me that a bad bearing could make no noise under most conditions.

It's probably making noise under all conditions, but it just gets significantly worse at that rpm range.
