normal for that to happen on these cars. just how the valve body is setup. just a lil harder/faster engagement for 2nd-3rd upshift.

Mine does it, too. It seems 2nd to 3rd has got the biggest jump in gear ratio. It's most noticeable when downshifting during deceleration, your rev will just jump high.
I figured this "hard" shift can be avoided if I keep the 2nd gear engaged for quite a few seconds before shifting up. Don't ask why...

I have an 07 G35x (2nd Gen) and mine does it too, seems to happen between 5k-7k rpm. when it happens, theres a huge bump from the rear wheels as if i just hit a speedbump or pothole or something.

@Andyl, mine doesnt do it for the downshifting 2>1 gear

Sorry for my noobishness. 07 G35X here as well. I noticed a rough time shifting from 2nd to 3rd as well- it felt like the tranny had to wake up and really work at getting over that hump. Took it in to the local dealership and after working on it all day Nissan told them to replace the TCU, including the entire valve control body - since then I can accelerate smoothly right through there without problems. No problems with fluid, grinding, or any mechanical issues.

I also notice the same 'issue' as wsolo08, but only when the descent control engages when I cruise down a steep hill- might just be the vdc though.

What is a TCU and what was the total service cost if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks

TCU = Transmission Control Unit- basically the transmission computer. I didn't complain that I was getting a brand-new valve body either.

I honestly don't know how much that would cost- it was fortunately covered under warranty for me. Good luck.
