Clutch Slipping??

I have had many sports cars over the years and I am suprised that I am having clutch issues at around 63k. I have had an Audi, Supra, built 240sx and have never had clutch issues. Anyhow my question is this. If my clutch is going out wouldnt it generally slip when coming out of first gear? I can mash the pedal through first and second but once i get on the highway and im in 3rd gear and above I hit the accelerator around 3k rpm and the revs go up to about 4.5k without a change in speed. ie clutch is slipping. Is this an adjustment issue or am I just SOL and I need to get a new clutch soon? Generally when you start having slip issues like this how much longer do I have until its completely FUBAR?

Thanks.

Yes, sounds like you need a new clutch. You can drive it until you have to rev 6K just to get it into 1st gear...Should replace the flywheel anyways..

You need a new clutch. The reason it doesn't slip in first/second is there is still enough bite to overcome the weight of the vehicle in that gear ratio. Once you get into the taller (or is it shorter) the engine has to work harder to get the car moving so it starts slipping.

Thank you gentlemen. Duly noted. Now to search for my clutch. I hope I have at least a few months on this one before it craps out on me.

pretty sure our flywheels have to be changed too.. i know back n 05 when my 350z clutch went out the dealer told me i had to buy new flywheel too... that was at 56k miles.. i think i now need one in my 07 g35 coupe i just picked up with only 32k miles on it now... no slipping yet, pedal is just stiff as hell and my engagement point keeps getting closer to floor

Usually on cars when I test for slipping clutch I put it in 4th at a low rpm and floor it. Usually it will slip then and not in a lower gear where mechanical advantage makes less grip okay. In higher gears...you need more grip

You might be able to get the flywheel resurfaced too. I had that done to my old mazda6, saved me from having to replace it and also lightened a bit. Win win for me. Not sure if that is an option on ours, just throwing it out there.

Not if its the original oem. They are dual massed and hard to find a shop that will even touch them let alone know how to resurface without costing more then a used one.

OP there is a new flywheel out thats claimed to be lightened and still dual massed so no chatter. Its a vendor on the site and its around 400. If you search around the vendor for sale im sure you will pop it up or just do a search.

Dual massed? Not that it matters to me (AWD 5AT) but just haven't heard that term before.
