Dual Mass vs Single Mass Flywheel
Dual Mass vs Single Mass Flywheel
So after numerous hours researching this topic I am still perplexed.
I am researching clutches and looking at installing either a Stage I or Stage II clutch and I can't decide whether I should replace the flywheel or not. Most of the complaints about the single mass is the chatter it produces and not really a bug difference in performance. Can someone please explain the performance benefit of the single mass over the dual mass (if any)? Also is it necessary to replace the flywheel when upgrading the clutch?

Yes, usually the flywheel is scarred. On the other hand if its been driving lightly and low miles you may be okay. No chatter and it can be used with aftermarket clutches.
Single massed.
Pros- Lighten weight allows quicker revs putting you in the powerband quicker therefore people say its faster. Lighter so it takes less to turn and therefore the engine works less reducing hp loss at flywheel.
Good thing is there is now a single massed that supposedly doesnt chatter like the older flywheels. Cant remember the company name but it costs around 400 compared to 1100 stock.

I picked up the TZ with the Findaza flywheel - I'll post back in here about the chatter -- didn't know about the Southbend flywheel or else i may have optedfor that.
