AT rebuild

Who rebuilds the 5AT transmission to handle the additional power of FI? I have seen some postings upgraded TC and valve bodies but what about actual internals like bands and clutches (if applicable). Thanks

Not really much you can do with bands. For friction you can replace with high energy frictions. Can replace some springs for servos and stuff, but the main control will be in the valve body.

just get valve body... TC... and change the fluid... i believe tranny's these days all use planetary gears (in constant mesh)... so band and clutchs/servos are out of the question... unless

SpeedForceRacing 619-328-4012. They can have your 5AT tranny rebuilt to handle up to 750+whp. Includes upgraded VB, TC and clutchpacks. However expect 1-2 months downtime.

I have no idea what these tranny rebuilders have been putting into these so called trannys. Alto just released the very first clutch upgrade for this tranny (well...releasing this month i should say), that's my information anyway...and it is from as reliable a source as you can get in the industry. I'd dig deeper and make sure you don't get sold a tranny with stock clutches. Mine will be getting this upgrade as soon as these clutch packs are available (this month?), and then I'll be doing an MT conversion (i am hoping), so I'll be selling my tranny (already have an offer for it). But....one step at a time.

Maybe they are machining down the clutch pack retaining plate and adding a friction and steel or two? I know when I used to work in a high performance trans shop we used to do that.

Yes but that gives you only 10%, not the 25% that is offered by having BETTER clutch material

Gurgen, Please keep me up to date on how your rebuild goes. Are you sending yours in to them or are they close where your just dropping your car off? As for the MT.....you are a glutton for punishment aren't you. Thanks

Which shop should I sent my AT to get rebuild? SGP or SFR?
Does SFR also do VB upgrade?

way to bring back a thread from the dead...

SGP, SFR, and GTM all do tranny builds...pick one...I don't think you can go wrong with either, but I chose SGP
