But.
Everyone is doing this and not once anywhere (including in the TSB) has anyone said what the adverse effect on the parts involved is supposed to be.
So - what EXACTLY happens to the Axle splines, Cap Bolt, Connecting Bolts, Cotter Pins or anything else related if absolutely NOTHING is ever done to fix the little "tink" noise.
I've never read anything about anything happening if it's not fixed. I think it's more of an annoyance than a safety issue.Originally Posted by CLRH2O

That being said, it's relatively easy and cheap to do so I'm not sure why you wouldn't fix it.

Alls I did was grease and clean the drive shaft bolts because they were covered in brake dust and the problem has been gone for a week and I've had the issue from the second my car starts driving to when I park. My axel was clean (I have 90k miles) and tighented to spec but at the same time I did replace all 4 brakes and Rotors so whatever, clickings gone and I'm happy
By the way God bless anyone taking that drive shaft bolt off

Did you use air tools or a breaker bar/extension?

With all due respect! How does applying grease in this area stop a "clicking" noise?
Thx.

I understand the metal to metal contact, however, why would it not be a "grinding" noise?

look at the diagrams and understand how it works..there wouldnt be a grinding noise imo because that part is fixed and not spinning. it all spins as a unit..it just has a little play and without grease there it is making metal to metal contact..with the grease in place it is dampening that little bit of play that is thereOriginally Posted by SECG35
