Poll: Oil Consumption
Here's what I have done so far....
Engine flush (using the product you described)
Change PCV
Change spark plugs
Change Valve Covers
Added BG MOA
Switched to a high mileage oil
My brother works for Nissan so I can get all the BG products for next to nothing. All of his master techs say that I need a new engine.
I have meticulously maintained and never beaten on this motor. All oil changes done with a quality synthetic oil at 2500 miles. Never consumed not even a drop between changes, then one night she starts smoking from the tailpipes. Checked the oil and it was down below half of the dipstick after 1000 miles of fresh oil.
BTW....I would not flush an oil consuming engine. It will make the OC worse. It did in my case.

4 out of 6 spark plugs had oil on them and all smelled like fuel. Keep in mind, I had ART Pipes on the car for 500 miles. I think I was running way rich because of the TP thus the fuel smell.
The ART Pipes were removed and valve covers, PCV valve, oil, plugs were changed before I ever even started the car back up.
After that I did the flush and the engine smoked like crazy. Was a bad idea, but necessary for the techs to diagnose where I was losing my oil from. Smoked way more after the flush than it did before. Consumption got a little worse.

Oil Consumption.
How much compression you got out of all cylinders?
Did you use an oil-air separator between the valve covers to the PCV ?
Did you check if the OLD PCV was stuck at all (no movement inside when rocked)?

When I checked the compression all cylinders were within the 165-175 range.
I have not installed an oil air separator.
Old PCV valve was fine when I removed it. (Still rattled when I shook it) I replaced it anyways..

I just bought mine Infiniti about 6k miles ago. It is an 06 6MT. I brought it in at the first 3k I drove it. I had a terrible rattling sound as well. when I went to pick it up the mechanic said about a tea cup of oil came out and the lack of oil was what was causing the rattling noise. He said these cars were known to "burn" oil. I said I didn't see any smoke. He said they don't "burn" it like they used to it just gets consumed. He said Check the oil after 1500 miles and see what you have. Just did that today and the oil doesn't even come up to the empty line on the stick. If is ok to add a quart or is it best to get it changed again? I assume the filter should be fine but I am not positive.

NEW Engine compression for older models like yours is about 184-185, so 170 to 175 it's still good.
I will just use thicker oil if you are in warm climate. 10W40 should be good.
The oil air separator is a must for these engines because the vacuum is so high, it sucks oil out of the valve cover and that can lock the PCV valve in open position and use so much oil that you run out very fast and that's when the damage occurs, when the engine is on its last quart. In addition, remove the engine plastic cover and the bottom cover to give the engine more room to dissipate heat.
Order oil air separator from Jegs.com. it will be the best investment you make for this car.
Do not use any on the driver side, it does not consume any on that side.
In addition order an electric oil pressure gauge from Amazon and make sure you order an adapter to go with it so you can still use the light.
This will keep your attention on oil pressure all the time.
The American Sender does not match Nissan treads so do not insert without proper adapter.
Mine (adapter)was ordered from England for about $24 plus shipping. Don't remember that website, but Google will serve you well.
Nissan will not give you any of these instructions, because it will be an admission that something is wrong in the design!!!
Good luck,

Since my friend is not on driver anymore i voted for him. 05 G 6MT, died on him due to oil consumption. Couldn't get a new engine since it had over 100k on the G. Instead he junked it and got a 370Z
hey guys so i just sold my 2005 at g35 and im looking to get a 6mt but after reading this discussion im getting pretty nervous i know any of the gs i get wont have warranty on them due to the age of them now so i wouldnt be able to get my engine replaced so my question is how much risk is there getting a 6mt version is there better years than others someone please help me out i hate being driven around!
I know this thread has been left alone for a while, but it's an awesome one. Does anyone have a link to the oil-air separator site or DYI to get some ideas. I'm looking into replacing my 04 AT valve covers and want to put an oil-air separator while I'm at it.
If anyone is looking to buy R&D Factory valve covers, check out my for sale thread: https://g35driver.com/forums/engine-...ower-48-a.html Not in a hurry to 'give it away', but I am open to reasonable best offers.
