If you pop the hood, and look at the underpanel of the hood it should say

"FRONT MIDSHIP OIL-BURNING PLATFORM"

There is absolutely no way to tell if you got one of the VQ's from the good batch. Dont let it hinder you from buying a G. The odds of getting a good motor are definitely in your favor. The 5AT's definitely are more rare in the Oil Consumption field....but then again, this car is not the same car in an Automatic, so go 6MT 06+

I'm going on 35k miles and there is no sign of excessive oil consumption. I have an 05' 6MT.

I had early symptoms of oil consuption problems from zero miles, but the problem has gone away since my break-in period and a bit more.. Just give the motor 5K+ to really start feeling its potental. I would just KEEP CHECKING YOUR OIL, every other week to be safe. I do.

I say 1 in every 1000+

Aren't most issues with the '06.........?

If and when you buy a G be it either an '05/'06/'07 have the agency check
the records on the car to see if the issue was ever brought up. Maybe it
would be worth buying an '07 G35 for just the piece of mind. Prices will get
very good as soon as the G37's are on the street in greater numbers.......
Good Luck!

In the autos you're fine and the 03/04 6MTs are fine, but I would not recommend purchasing any 05/06 or 07 (Z/coupe only) 6MT G35/Z. The Rev-Up motors have issues. Last I heard, I believe you've got about a 15-20% chance you're RevUp will burn oil.

Be sure to only buy a used car with documented legal records PROVING to Nissan that the oil was changed at minimum of 7,500 miles and 179 days to maintain Nissan Warranty.

Skip one interval and you are out of luck or iffy made up records, store oil receipts..................things so many do to cover up lack of paper work.

Rev-Up motors consume oil. Thats why I brought an 04, that and because of the options to have Brembos. But like everyone said there is really no way of telling except getting a report.

so you got an 04 automatic right?

autos are safer then huh. i only want an auto, dont care what others say. i'm in nyc. and its easier. the car for me would be to be comfortable in and have decent performance and looks and appeal, not to track race.
