engine oil.. need suggestions
alright, so my 2003 6mt with 30,000 miles on it has the oil consumtion issue. i took it to the dealer and they ran the test after a 1000 miles and it burned 1 qt so they said they wouldnt replace it yet because that is still considered normal for the car. total B.S. right? but anyways my question is could i step up the oil to keep it from burning so much? Maybe use 10w30 or 10w40. i live in las vegas so it gets pretty damn hot out here. i currently use 5w30 penzoil. it doesnt bother me that i have to check my oil level, it is just kinda embarassing when i drive and there is smoke coming out of the pipes. is there anything i could do to help?? thanks in advance!

White smoke usually means that there is water leaking into your combustion chamber and it comes out as steam (unless the steam is only there when you've started the car and before it warms up to get rid of the condensation): blue typically means that you're burning oil. Burning oil can come from various places (e.g., timing is off, not all gas is being burned due to spark malfunction or dirty plugs, oil seaping into combustion chamber past rings, etc.). This may require some detective work on your part, especially in having your compression checked.
With respect to water in your chamber, this is another detective project for you. Typically this is as a result of condensation from sitting overnight or from doing only short runs of <10 miles. One solution is a short trip of 30 miles or more at a good speed to cleanse out the condensation. But there may be other issues, such as a gasket leak from the cooling system to the engine compartment.
Good luck.
