Concerns for a RevUP engine in an '03 6MT

Hey all,

Got a question...if I were to get a RevUP motor in my '03 coupe (replacing my non-RevUP), I understand that my ECU would need some reprogramming. And I've heard something about the lower collector too. Can you guys elaborate on this for me?

Just doing some research since I might be making this move soon.

Thanks!
B

You would need a revup ecu, harness, and various other things to pull of the swap. It's not as easy as you think. Many will say its not worth it and would suggest to build your non-revup engine instead.

What is wrong with your non-revup engine?

I'm burning about 1.5 qts of oil every 1000 miles.

In any event, do you mean I'd need an actual new ECU? Why couldn't I just reflash or reprogram the existing one? And I suppose the dealer would set me up with what I needed if they put in a RevUp motor under warranty, right? Rumor has it they're dropping in RevUps for non-RevUp oil-burning warranties.

u need the actual revup ecu and harness, etc.

Ive never heard that rumour. It would be a lot of necessay extra work that the dealership would need to do. I extremely doubt u will get a revup engine for an oil consuming non revup. Its like some revup owners who had oil consumption problems who believed they would be getting hr motors, but didn't and got flamed for it.

G/l though and let us know what the dealership does for u.

Yeah I'll let u guys know for sure. My bud actually got this info from one of his tech buds who works at an Infiniti shop. So there may be some substance to this rumor...but I'll keep you guys in the loop.

Thanks for the replies.

If it's under warranty, why do you care what goes into it? Let them worry about it... if they mess it up, they can fix it for you for free.

Just trying to get a better understanding of the process...but you're right - either way, it'll be their responsibility to get it installed correctly.

Thanks,

NO, whoever said that let that rumor out is an *diot.

Considering Im on my third engine in my 03, first one replaced due to oil consumption, 2nd due to internal failure at 300 miles. ..

hahahhaa you wont get a rev-up motor. Thats similar thinking to ricer math...uhhh well they dont make the 03-05's anymore so Ill HAVE TO get the 06 + rev-up. Our engines are still produced and theres no way that nissan will make a frankenstein out of your car.

I actually had an owner of another shop say: "wow, burnng oil. Theyll put that new g37 engine in yours for sure" LOL

Since when did most dealerships replace anything, yet along go out on a limb with a swap and actually get it right the first time
