Question w/ spacer installation

Hello all,

i installed my spacer yesterday but i didnt install that gasket that it came with. Just wonder wat the thing is for and if its really important that i install it. its a real pain to take out the upper plenum and my friend from AAM said that their spacer doesnt need them gaskets.

The gasket is not required. Motordyne says the same thing in their instructions. It is a good idea to have but if you properly torqued the bolts down you should be ok.

Do you hear any leaks or anything?

If you have the MD spacer, you don't need it because the spacer comes with gaskets pre attached.
But if you are using the AAM without it, then you don't have any gasket at all.

i did install the 5/16 motordyne spacer. im alil paranoid if do need it or not.

we're talking about this one right? http://motordyneengineering.com/images/AramidGasket.JPG

but black and made of rubber (that one above looks like its made of metal)

i hope i dont have any leaks, my friend checked out all the bolts. all around the plenum and said its ok. its just that i feel no difference in power wat so ever. maybe a louder grunt but thats it. coupled with a stillen intake.

i didnt reset my ECU though, but i heard its not needed.

i DO notice that, when i start my car, the rpms shoot up to 2,000 and stay there for half a second and then it becomes normal again.

i hear more of a grunt but no power difference, hope i didnt lose power...

well, a good ECU reflash will a tune will tie it all together right? im trying to get my discount at AAM before my friend quits

Are you using the stock lower manifold gasket? If yes, that's perfectly fine.

As far as HP gains, they are always there. Even if you can't feel it, the dyno will measure it. Everybody has a different tolerance for what they can feel on the butt dyno.

One guy here on the forum installed an MREV2/spacer while on the dyno and measured a whopping 20+HP/30+TQ increase. But when he drove home he couldn't feel it. Others who installed just a spacer and gained ~12HP can clearly feel it.

So what can be felt is subjective and varies from person to person.

Some read the reviews on the forums and get the impression or expectation that a spacer will kick-in like FI or Nitrous. It won't do that.

Some people measure gains in street racing or the quarter mile, some dont, but that test method has a lot of significant variables that can interfere up or down with the results of a comparison.

But no matter how it is subjectively compared, it will always make gains that can be (objectively) measured by a dyno.
