Ive seen this on over 80 cars, atleast.. an yes they will warrenty it. but this job sucks to do, i recently did one last week he had to have both side changed, they have a replacement valve cover, which they said fix's this problem NOT TRUE!! we've had lots come back with the same problem after we warrentied it. We,ve contacted nissan through our infiniti dealership, and had a very hard time getting them to warrenty it a second time. After market valve covers is what i did, 200 dollars cheaper, and are rated up 500 hp. No more leak.

^Ok.... kinda pointless if you don't tell us who makes the aftermarket valve covers. Also, what does horsepower have to do with any of this?

no worries

assuming you have some basic tools and a torque wrench, this is not a bad DIY. Take your time, put on some rubber gloves, and you can can repair it yourself for like $250 and 3-5 hours or less per side. I personally think the g35 is a treat to work on.

There are no perfect cars. Every car will eventually have an oil leak at the valve cover gasket. Not every owner will need to replace the valve covers (not all of these leak at the spark plug seals). If someone finds a car that needs no work ever they should let us all know. Until then I'm pretty happy with my G.

WHOO HOO momma is getting a new engine! Was burning oil and it was not going anywhere. So I had to do the oil check test every 1k miles at the dealer. At 2k miles I went back and they said I needed a new engine. The easy way to detect if you might have this problem is check your oil every 1k miles.

Not really the same issue...but that's good for you that you're getting a new engine.

This happened to me....

I took my car in for an oil change at 69,900 miles and they identified this valve leak with my 2005 G35x. The service advisor who was working that day told me it would be $800+ to fix...yikes. They gave me a loaner for the night and the next day my assigned advisor was working so I talked to her and she identified that it should be covered under my powertrain warranty, which ended up being the case.

My car was 100 miles from the expiration of the powertrain...I thank my lucky stars I decided to bring my car in early for the oil change, and that I talked to my regular advisor because if not I would have been out $800+.

Just checked my cylinder 2 plug over the weekend and it was dry. I've heard cylinder 6 is more prone to leaking, but that one is really hard to get to (rear driver side). I watched bythebay's youtube video, but damn when I get the engine cover and the intake off, that wire harness is a pain. I didn't think i'd ever want plug wires again, but I do now! I'm at 67,500 miles now.

I was reading this thread last night and wanted to know from the forums, what is the best way to approach this issue.

Can I bring my car to a dealership and expect them to actually inspect my motor for the TSB?

Am I better off trying to remove this my self to check? (That's what I'm afraid of)

2004 G35 Sedan w/ 54k miles & Extended warranty till 2012.

Infiniti of Kirkland check all TSB's and they say thats "standard practice" so i would assume that all dealers will do that... but it does not hurt to ask them to make sure to check all the spark plug walls etc

Thanks Phoenix,

The reason I asked is because I never really had luck mentioning TSB's to dealerships when I owned my Mustangs. I was doubting that Infiniti would be any different.

Just worried to say if I bring my car in on a problem that I can't see or notice affecting my driving ability, they might just turn the other cheek and leave me with a balance just too look.

yeah they seem to have a standard in their point check to check the TSB's but if you just mention to them about this issue and to please check for it/each spark plug etc they should do it for you
