^ same with the revup VQ OC issue way back in 2006. They never heard of that problem

Changed out the spark plugs on my 03 6MT after reading this (warranty goes out in Dec.) and all of the sockets were dry.

 

How difficult would it be to change out your own valve covers?

I'm out of warrantee.

 

I don't think it would be very difficult. It would be comparable to installing a motordyne spacer (there's a diy vid for this), except you would have to remove a few extra parts to get to the valve covers.

 

The engine becomes extremely accessible once the intake manifold is off. I don't think it would be too hard. Its the price of the parts that sucks.

 

Is this something the dealership would check if you asked them to?

 

I asked the dealership...and they said they can check, but if there is no issue then you have to pay for the service. If there is an issue, then they'll take care of it since its covered under warranty. In the case that there is no issue, the price they quoted me is $150.

 

I'd hate to throw away $150, but the price seems reasonable given the time need, thanks

 

don't throw away $150!!!!! it's SO easy to do this!

 

time is my problem, I used to do tune ups myself years ago, I just don't have the time nowadays

Bythabay: a couple pages back, you responded to my question regarding the throttle body, saying that we only need to "relearn" the throttle body when we disconnect the wiring harness.

If we follow your DIY to change the spark plugs...will disconnecting the wiring harness from the throttle body be necessary?

I had the exact same thing happen to mine. ended up replacing both valve covers. lucky for me i was still under warranty. This is not cheap cause you can't just replace the seals. you have replace the whole valve cover. seals are built into the valve covers.

 

I changed my plugs a while ago and noticed the same oil in tube problem.
I dropped by the Infiniti dealer today and ran the problem by the service guy. He said it was the first G they have heard of that had the problem???

They quoted me $366.40 for 1 cover (part #13264-AM600 and $21.42 for a gasket (12370-8j102. Labour for the job was est at $270.


Total with taxes $743.34

Seems like a rip off. There has to be a better way.

Really interested if someone has come up with a solid, economical fix for this.

 

Assuming you are out of warranty? There isn't a cheap fix. Maybe finding the parts online cheaper and installing yourself. If you have any mechanical knowledge its really not a big job. Its slightly more involved than installing a plenum spacer.
