Best bang for the buck mod?

What is the best bang for the buck mod? I would also like to know what is the cheapest mod I can get that will increase my horsepower? Is there anything that I can do to maybe decrease drivetrain loss with out changing the gears?

I would say performance driving classes. Yeah, they're expensive. But nothing will improve your track times better than skills.

Re: Best bang for the buck mod?

Well both sound good. Is there any good mods under $200 that will give me at least 5-7 more hp? I want to like try to get my car at least to beat a 2004 Maxima 6spd or 2003 Accord coupe 6spd or something. I want to race one but I know that they might win because they are about 0.16-0.3 seconds faster than the G35.

STICKERS!

I wouldn't worry about the Maxima too much. It makes less torque, but at a higher RPM. It's 265/255 v. 260/260, not much difference. Plus, the Maxima weighs 50-100lbs more. I am, however, disappointed in Nissan for "beating" the G35 with some of the extras - quad-tip exhaust, bi-xenons, variable-length intake, etc.

A K&N Air Filter with the stock intake is around $50 and is supposed to be good for a couple of ponies.

Re: Best bang for the buck mod?

Let's say we talk about "pure" horsepower, is there a lot of goodies right now for the G35c? Save me the "Stickers" suggestion... I have owned a 99 Cobra and a 02 Z06. I could say that taking driving lessons will do a lot in 1/4 mile times. I've taken Jim Russells driving lessons a few years ago and think they worth every penny spent. I'm currently looking for the G35c as a year-round car but would like to mod it for sure.

What would increase HP that is available and keep the engine without a supercharger or a turbo... I'm planning on buying a G35c but would like some more HP.

CAI (ok for a real 7HP), (250$?)
Complete exaust system with cat-backs (ok, another 10-12HP) (1500$?)

What else is available right now and that could give some more gains?

Thanx,

Sylvain
Hope my english is not too bad. :|

Re: Best bang for the buck mod?

Whatcha want is a K&N drop in air filter. You can find them in the
Parts/Accessories section of this website for about $45. Individual
results may vary, but there have been those who claim a 5-10HP
boost at the wheels after installation. After that, you'd probably want
to look at a cold air intake and/or high flow exhaust system. Those'll
probably run about $300 each.

Re: Best bang for the buck mod?

Unfortunately, the G35 is still fairly new. So there's not much in the way of performance available yet except for a for CAI's and exhausts. Luckily, we share an engine with the 350Z, which means that mods will be coming soon. Right now, though, you'll have to adopt a "wait and see" policy.

Re: Best bang for the buck mod?

Yes, but it's the sedan that's been out for over a year. I like sedans. But, sedans don't generate as big an aftermarket crowd as coupes and 2-seaters. Now that the G35c and 350Z are out, parts are starting to hit the shelves. Most of the stuff should trickle down to the sedan, though.

Re: Best bang for the buck mod?

I actually heard the new Max only weights about 95lb more than the 3.5SE Altima with leather and everything. So how much hp would the K&N air filter give? I was told it was like 3hp not that much. I was looking for maybe for something that is around 8hp or something. Since our car also shares the same engine as the 3.5 Altima and the 3.5 Maxima will the mods forfor those cars work on our car? I know this have been asked but I saw no real answer for it tho. If it works on the coupe it must work for the sedan to that what the dealer told me.

Re: Best bang for the buck mod?

i'm voting for k&n. i've read it gives like 6rwhp, i was dubious about that claim but i did feel a minute difference, so yea, maybe it actually does give 6RWhp.
