stealthy Z tube.

I have been pondering the Z-tube Mod for my sedan. The only thing holding me back is the fact that once installed, you can tell that the intake has been modified. While my car is on warranty, I want to keep it stock as possible. This way there would be no problems with the warranty.

In looking at the Z tube, it just looks like it's a tube with a straight shot from the airbox to the intake. On my sedan the tube has the little box for what ever the reason. Couldn't you just take the stock sedan tube and line the inside with a thin tube of lexan that would bypass the box and essentially do the same thing that the Z-tube does?

Re: stealthy Z tube.

there are laws against voided warranty's by dealers because changing out ur ztube isnt going to affect anything. They wont care if u change it or not. The difference between ztube and stock gtube is that the gtube has sound boxes on top and bottom that quiet it down (and restrict airflow). its about a 10 minute replacement for the ztube alone if u keep ur stock airbox. Just unscrew maf, the screwn holding it to the plenum, disconect the tube attached under the ztube and unscrew and wiggle off the end connected to the plenum and then put the ztube on and do all those steps backwards. Its really easy. I installed p/c +ztube combo in about an hour and half (friend dropped a socket wrench down in the front bumper and that took about 30 minutes to get out, and the 4 pieces of rubber on the p/c tok about 20 minutes for me to get on there, and the rest was extrememly quick easy and painless. I would do it if i was u. I have no regreted it since the day i got it done.

Re: stealthy Z tube.

1...it looks similar (although the Z tube doesn't have the resonator box which is what restricts the airflow I guess).
2...it's very easy to install and un-install and put your old stock intake back if & when the time comes.
3...I've been told that it shouldn't void the warranty (and if it did, it would only pertain to the intake itself which you replaced with a Nissan OEM stock part anyway and not the entire b-2-b or powertrain warranty).
4...it's definitely worth it!!!!!! ;-)

btw - my car has been in for service a few times since I 've had the Z tube and nobody in the service dept has mentioned a word about the Z tube or the K&N air filter I have in my car.

Re: stealthy Z tube.

What's wrong with taking a stock part form another car and putting it on your own? Especially if it's almost the same car. Our car has had service and they never said anything, you have nothing to be afraid of.

Mai -

Were you responding to me or shodog, the thread originator? That was one of my points -- there shouldn't be anything wrong with taking one Nissan/Infiniti intake tube (from our G35) and replacing it with another Nissan intake tube (from the 350Z). I too haven't had any issues with my Infintii service dept. and do not expect any problems; plus the fact that we're talking about an air intake tube...not exactly something that you would expect to have a failure or problem with. ;-)

Re: stealthy Z tube.

You guys are probably right, most likely they wouldn't give me a hard time at the dealer. I guess it all depends on the dealer whether they wanted to be difficult or not. As others have said I could alway put the old tube back on if it goes in for service.

Jim,

I think you will be very happy with the Z tube. I fell in love with it the first time I heard the car rev up with it installed.

Re: stealthy Z tube.

just so u know... ur car will run wihtout an intake tube at all.... so unless the airflow is cutoff or something it wont mess up ur car (i didnt say it would run WELL... just that it'll run)

I have 42,000 miles on my G and have taken it in many a time for service and warranty stuff. Not once have they mentioned any of the mods I did to my G (Z tube included). Ive even taken it to two different dealers.

I to am very very happy with the sound (and a bit of a kick) the tube gave after the install and an ECU reset.
This mod is arguably the best bang for the buck.

In other words........GO FOR IT ALREADY!

The car will run without an intake tube, but not for very long most likely. As soon as some water, dirt, dust or rocks gets in the engine its over, as without an intake tube you will have no filter!
