Pretty nifty... so is the sunroof controller generating the +12v sine wave for the beeper? I'm interested in this!

No, there is a dedicated controller for the beeper, it just so happened that every wire I needed is also needed for the sunroof module. The dedicated controller drives the beeper directly, but with a square wave, not a sine wave. Square waves produce higher volumes, and, luckily, much easier to implement.

Where do I sign up?

And since I helped research the part number, can I get priority purchase?

Good work Kevin!

I know mic's have different sensitivities than the human ear. How is it in real life? I guess what I am asking, is it the same 'loudness' as a factory beep, like say a Toyota? (I had a 4Runner for years so that is something I can relate it to)

Well, I didn't actually install the Acura beeper that I bought, I installed another beeper that I found locally. I've never really paid much attention to OEM beepers, so I can't compare.

But, what I do know, is that I moved the beeper from inside my brake cavaity to right outside of it, and its still not all that loud. If you are standing withing 10' of the car you hear it fine, anything further and its hard to notice it.

The specs on the Piezo I'm using now give it a sound pressure level of 86db at 10cm. I am driving it at the resonent frequency, so I'm maxing it out volume wise.

I have found a similar piezo that has a 92db @ 10cm rating. This would be the equivalent of doubing the power to the one I currently have twice. (every time you double the power it raises the db by 3db). I think I'm going to give it a shot and see if it increases the usable distance to ~25'. I have found some 100+db units but nothing in the frequency range (and price range, as most are acutally alarm sirens) I'm trying to stay in.

OK, I just ordered a few test beepers that are rated at 105dB. They should be here in time for me to test next weekend! I don't think we will get much louder then that.

since it's hooked up to the door actuator, does it beep if you use your power locks when you're inside the car?

It will if the igntion is off. If the ignition is on it won't beep at all.

I would definetely buy this, once you mass produce it, and its plug and play. Good luck with the R&D.

I got the new beeper installed today. I can now here the beep from 50' away. The new beeper has a really soft, yet loud, beep to it, I really like it!

I am looking forward to showing it off at ZdayZ this weekend!!!!
