Re: Breakin

Well... if you follow the owners manual... (sorry I just had to).

1200 miles and keep it under 4000 rpms the whole time.

Re: Break in

Yes ...try to keep it under 4,000rpm . Very your driving habit though . Dont just baby it all the time .Push it hard to 4,000rpms a few times a week...maybe not WOT but heavy throttle .

Couldnt afford it when young...gonna play when Im old

Re: Breakin

Hello, new G35 sedan owner here, so i'm also interested in engine break-in. i was talking to a co-worker who builds race engines as a hobby and he told me the best way to break in an engine is to run it hard after warming it up good.

his reasons are this:
#1 seating the seals
#2 metal shavings should all be caught in the oil filter

i found this link to corroborate his views (http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm). what do you all think about this?

thanks,
jeff

Re: Breakin

Two threads on the FAQ Forum:

Run it Hard!

And what I followed: which made sense to me and basically follows manufacturer recommendations, allowing for a bit of fun.

Re: Breakin

Oh I guess I didn't baby my car...I only had like 300miles, I was shifting at way over 4000rpm... when I did hit the 1000 miles mark... I was already at the tracks...

Re: Breakin

I'm down! I'll start with some up rock, then pop locking, then down to the ground for a few flare to head spins...then I'll finish you off with 3 air-tracks to 10 90's!

Boy, I miss those days! AND I'M WHITE, BTW....I almost started looking into what it would take to get in the sequel of YOU GOT SERVED, but realized work comes first! Thw white boys represented in that movie, especially at the end!

Re: Breakin

I've always broken my cars in carefully, following manufacturer's recommendations. None have ever burned a drop of oil. Performance seems to keep improving up to about 20K miles as well. Maybe the performance improvement jumps quicker if you're harder on it, but I think it's risky. One of my friends always runs them hard off the lot. He seems to burn a bit more oil, and remember his '76 Vette burning significant oil after a year. He usually trades them quickly though.
