? about engine oil

Does anyone know if there are any risks/negatives involved in switching back and forth between mineral-based and synthetic oil in our engines?

i believe that once you go synthetic you should stay synthetic forever and never switch back. Maybe this is a wives tale, but I have been told this many times and tend to believe it.

I admit this provides NO explanation for how hybrid oils work.

I've heard that older versions of synthetic will turn to a gel when introduced to dino oils. That's why you were supposed to stick with just one or the other. But supposedly with todays formulations this does not hold true anymore.

I don't actually know this to be true it's just what I heard.
Check out yhe forums at http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi tons of good info there.

This used to be accepted as true, but almost all of today's synthetics state on their labels that they are compatible with conventionals.

Actually there is quite a bit of evidence that seems to say that there is no need to get expensive with motor oil.
