I believe your referring to the Intake camshaft positioner located on top of front camshaft bearing cap very visible between valve cover and timing chain cover.

It will have a minor affect on acceleration and mid-high RPM power.

It's different from the Camshaft Position Sensor,
there is a LH and RH side $195 shipped each side
here is an attached diagram to show them, this is for 2003-2005 G35 if you want more specific break down and part number go to grubbsinfinitiparts.com and put your VIN number in the system and you can get the one your car calls for sure,
check out this diagram, in the upper left hand corner is your Timing Valve Solenoids

Soon as the light comes on
there's no real set "time" on how soon you have to replace it, the sooner the better to resolve the condition.

This can cause lower gas mileage and loss of power due to improper timing changes due to cam position. These solenoids communicate with the cam phase sensors to tell ecu what position cams are in and what to do

Check your engine oil level...if it is low, this DTC will be stored. These solenoids work with oil pressure, so if the engine oil level is low, they will not do what the ECM tells them to do at different speed intervals.
