I have 130+k on my VQ35DE and lately it started consuming allot of oil. Quart in 3k miles.
I'm trying to figure out what are my options considering that my G is 05 and long ago not under any kind of warranty.
What would be a cost effective fix for the issue if it gets worse?
New short block from Nissan?
Different engine?
Or something else.

This is true. Maybe get the leak down and compression test to help you determine the exact cause?

Those isn't it only the 6mts that were known to have oil consumption problems? You may just have worn rings.

I dont think a quart every 3k miles is not bad... especially if driven hard?
I dont think that amount warrants a engine rebuild.. maybe a new oil?

mine burns 0.25 quart every 5k miles or so (GC 0w-30).. but I baby the **** of the 150k mile car to make sure it goes at least 3 more years.. I think I wouldI burn more if I drove the car harder..

And that's just a guess. I added 1.5 qt yesterday and I have 4k miles on the oil change. I usually change it at 5-7k with 0W30 Castrol.

I'm going to do a 5-30 next oil change and see if the consumption stays the same or changes.
