Rattling Noise & AT Check light

Hey guys,
So I started having 2 issues over the last couple of days.
So I just got my 03 G35 Sedan
about a month ago now. About a week ago I noticed that the AT Check light would flash on for a few seconds during start up and then go away. Got me kind of nervous; because I hadn't noticed it before, but calmed down when I didn't see it turn back on again while driving and figured it was just a normal light that flashes when you first turn on the car. Now yesterday I started noticing that the engine is making a rattling sound. It comes and goes while the car is in idle as well as during acceleration. Not sure if the two items are related or separate issues. I would really appreciate any help / suggestions with this issue. Thanks!

Might go in to Nissan for a diagnostic to check that code, an OBD2 scanner probably wont show anything because it's not an engine management code. Some high end scanners do chassis, transmission, CAN error codes though.

ALL of the dash indicator/warning lights are supposed to come on during start-up. This is normal on ALL cars. It's a "lamp" or bulb check.

Right, but this was different from the normal start up. Usually it would just turn on and shut off like normal. Now when I start up it lights up after the engine starts flashes 3 times and then turns off.

Ahhh, okay. I have the field service manual for an '08 and it does describe a no-tool-diagnostic sequence and it uses the "A/T Check" light for indicating what to look at but it appears to be go by how long that light stays on, not a number of flashes. Do you have a FSM ? You can try and download a copy of ask around if not. They're hard to come by nowadays as Nissan cracked down on the free distribution of them.

Yep I've got the service manual just no way to look at it (my computer busted lol). That makes sense as a diagnostic code though

The instructions changed over the years. The steps for '08 models is similar but not the same. It uses a 22-second sequence too vs 17-seconds.
