Go here to see how my swap went: https://g35driver.com/forums/engine-...-how-went.html
This post is to show how much the swap ended up costing. From the car itself, to the new JDM engine, to alllll those little nickel and dime items you never anticipate, but add up and kill ya. This is for everything from the time I decided to buy a G35, to now. The real, true cost.
This cost would certainly be lower for some of you. For example many of you already have an engine lift, decent torque wrenches, etc.. I have lots of tools, but there are definitely holes in my game. This project exposed some of them, which is why you see things like "metric end wrenches" in the cost list. I have metric end wrenches, but they are random and scattered so I broke down and bought a real set. That sort of thing.
The attached spreadsheet shows it all in great detail. You can open that and play with it to see what it would cost you based on what tools you already have. I tried to add links to the things I bought. Couldn't do it for all of it. And there were several charges to my credit card that I failed to keep the receipt for and can't remember what I bought. Sorry about that. (My wife already chewed me out severely).
Here is a screenshot of the spreadsheet. (Actual spreadsheet is attached) See attached spreadsheet for a better view
And YES about the cost of ALL THE OTHER STUFF it's usually a pretty significant part of the price tag.
Heck even random things that you wouldn't expect for a clutch job can include specialty tools that add up to several hundred more dollars when you factor in pilot bushing puller, slide hammer and ring gear lock tool, that's like $400 worth of stuff if you want to "do it right" and not fiddle around with other ways to do those two steps.
