Question How often do you reset the ECU?

What is the benefits of reseting the ECU beside clearing the memory so you can "train" your car over again? What is the downside of reseting it?

never did. it's a waste of time i think. unless from what ive read the AT benefits more from it, like it resets something in the transmission, but i dont really know. i have the 6MT so i dont care.

if you have an intake/exhaust your car will see the benefits until the ECU re-adapts.

Every time I put a mod on.
I believe it gives my car a fresh outlook on life!

Never did it. If you feel like it might be a good idea, why don't you call the local dealership and ask. See what they say...

It only helps your automatic transmission reset itself to the factory settings. There is no benefit in resetting the ECU all the time.

Some people reset it after every mod, which does absolutely nothing. This is a fact.

Again, it only helps in reset your transmission into the factory setting. That's it. Beyond that, it's a waste of 30 seconds to 10 minutes......depending on if you know how to do it right the first time.

I've done several times just to test it out. The car typically, while in learn mode, isn't as snappy for about 50 miles of driving, then everything is good to go. When I redid my exhaust and CAI - I decided not to reset the ECU - and within same amount of time (50 miles) everything seemed to dial itself in. I also foudn that after a reset, if I drove th car for about 15 minutes fairly heavy on the throttle, and then shut the car down for about a 1/2 hour - it seemed to be on target right then - so the 50 mile learning phase was shortened to under 30 miles. If you add a crank pulley - do the reset and it'll adjust for the weight difference in 2-3 days instead of 5-7.

The car will learn the new mods as the car will breath and have different a/f, etc. and adjust itself accordingly. I spoke with TS about this as well - and they said over time (5000 - 7500 miles) it is a good idea.

I also spoke with my dealer - Miller Infiniti in SoCal - they said at every 7500 mile interval - 2 oil changes - they do the reset.

So...knowing what I knwwo and have experienced - I'll probalby do the reset at every oil change and just make it part of my service interval task list.
