i recently bought a turbonetics turbo kit. In september to be exact. I was told not to buy the kit by several people as it was known to be manufactured poorly. I liked the setup of the kit though so went ahead and bought it anyway for $4600.00. Of course i had to buy several other things as well for the kit that you dont need but should have like a boost gauge for one and a 45 degree bend for the oil return as the straight one they give you barely clears the exhaust. When the kit came in to the loacal shop i ordered it from, i obviously went through the parts and checked them against the parts list that comes with the kit. The kit was missing 2 intercooler pipes!! :headshake: off all things there are only like 5 how do you miss 2!?! and it was missing 3 couplings 6 clamps and a small bag of hardware. i mean at least i got the turbo. so then i call turbonetics and they tell me to call my shop so i do that and they start asking for pictures and stuff like i stole these couplings and pipes. if i was gonna get something for free i would have went for the bov or something i could sell. I get all my stuff finally and then i opt to have a shop install the kit instead of myself so if anything goes wrong well its on them not me. the shop guy calls me and tells me to come down apparently the kit doesnt fit well in some spots and a bolt they say is on the bottom of the ac pump isnt there. so i go down and yes on their picture in their book their is a bolt that isnt on my car, why? i dont know and niether do they. of course turbonetics wants pictures as always. now the kit after some modifications is on my car all is well for about 1500 miles then my wastegate recirculating tube breaks away from the flange at the flex section. i take it to the shop he rigs it on and says "get a new one its not safe to drive like this." I call my loacal shop and they call turbonetics and guess what?? "WE NEED PICTURES" so i get the damn picks and after about a week and a half i get my piece. of course little do i know it will break again in the same spot in 2200 miles. this time i have a performance shop make me a new one that is right and hey with 7500 miles and counting its still there. so the other problem with the kit is that the damn v band clamps are made like ****!! they leak, i tighten, they leak, i tighten, they break. so i have had 3 break so far usually the "V" seperates from the actual clamp and jiggles aroud while it leaks. so now i want a new clamp for the one that cant be fixed and are you ready for this...........turbonetics WONT give me a clamp! a clamp!! A CLAMP! 5000 dollar kit i cant get a clamp? ill send them the old one i dont care. They probably would rather PICTURES!!!! anyway if you are thinking of buying this kit just be ready to pay a little extra for the install and custom recirculating pipe and the extra v-band clamps and def. def. dont expect help from the motherland CAUSE IT AINT COMING WITHOUT PICTURES> :rolf2: sincerely, an unhappy consumer

 

TN are known to send a kit with missing parts, that is not new at least that's always been the reviews. What they do is honor their warranty, this will be the first time I heard someone complain about their service/warranty. I'm sure MIAPLAYA will see this post and help you out, he's been known to go out of his way to help TN drivers.... Good Luck. Oh, did you get the update Pipe for the wastegate relocation? this help eliminate the boost spike/overboost with aftermarket exhaust.

My kit was missing a few parts as well. I have not had the kit on that long but the one problem I have run into I called TN as soon as they opened yesterday for help. The guy said let me speak to a tech and I'll call you back. Well I called twice and still haven't gotten an answer. I am hoping they will call me today as my car is at the shop having gauges put in. So I wanted the mechanic to look into the problem. I am a little weary now about the broken parts you have. I hope I don't run into the same problem.

How many miles do you have on the kit? Besides the problems you mentioned how has the kit performed for you? Has you motor been reliable with the extra HP? Any SES lights? I am running into a P1274 SES error.

 

My kit had a couple wrong size clamps but that's it. Also, you might of received a kit that had the Z instructions, so there would be little differences here and there.

The rest of story seems very unlike turbonetics. I'm curious if you're going through the shop to get the replacement parts or dealing directly with turbonetics. What's the reasoning for them wanting pictures? Is it your shop that wants the pics or T'netics? I got my clamps and a replacement AC line from T'netics without pictures. Seems a bit strange.

Sorry to hear this is happening to you. My FI experience isn't as smooth as I expected either. I put my kit on last dec and just last week everything got ironed out. But as far as turbonetics goes, they have been very helpful to me. Hope it smoothes out.

TN tech just got back to me so I have to retract the not getting a call back statement even though it was a bit delayed.

Man I only have 175miles on the kit I hope I don't run into the issues you are having. Sounds frustrating especially when you are impatient like me.

 

What issues where you having?

 

Various leaks causing low power and lean condition. Had an upper AC line melt due to install error. Also had my lower one go on me, not sure what caused it but T'netics sent me a replacement quick. While fixing that, found a bolt loose on the turbo, and a missing bolt on the downpipe. All fixed for now...car pulls hard.

Next test is the track....see if the AC system holds up and if I see any heat issues.

 

This why I'll never add forced induction to any of my cars. NO aftermarket company makes a truely reliable or OEM fitting SC/turbo setup. Whether it be a domestic or import car. If I ever have a forced inducted car, it will only come that way from the factory. While I've never added forced induction to any of my cars, I have had more problems with ill-fitting parts than I'd care to mention. It's been my experience that if you get an aftermarket part (anything) you have a 7/10 chance that it's not going to fit "perfectly" and a 3/10 chance that it simply won't fit. These companies just don't have the manfacturing tolerances that the Factory designs in.

 

Harsh, but this does have some truth to it. I decided to go FI just to get a feel for supercar power once in my life.

Being a somewhat newbie to modding cars, I've observed the following: The more aftermarket stuff you add on, the more possible problems. The performance can be great, but the headaches and hassles can be numerous.

 

SOunds to me like the shop YOU chose was not up to snuff on what to look out for when installing a FI kit to a car that didnt have it from the factory . TN has had some problems with getting all the parts in thier kits . Whinning will get you no where . Calling the company and telling them will .
Im sorry if I sound harsh . But by your post you sound like very few thing in life ever go right for you . And in that case try looking in a mirror to find the problem with life

I have the Stillen Intercooled S/C, installed it myself and have had very good luck so far. It is by far the easiest to install and most reliable.
I know a bunch of people will now come back and say it does not make enough power. That is a whole different debate for another thread. I don't want to jack this thread so all I will say is it has tons of power under the curve and is fast enough for me... maybe not for someone else.
