an electrical engineer i'm not, so don't flame me... i was talking to a friend of mine about this kit, and he asked "how does it prevent a floating ground"? so... what the heck is it, and by all the posts in this thread, i take it whatever it is, its not an issue? thanks all.

haha, I don't know what a "floating ground" is either bro. I don't think it matters. The facts are clear on this mod-- It's a good one with benefits in idle, shift quality, ease of starting, and possibly gas mileage and power.
There's a ton of endorsements by peeps on this forum, including my own bro. It's all good dude......

this paper explains it (search for "floating"):

Not sure what a Floating Ground is but the link seems to apply only to Alternating Current Networks not DC connections.
Any electrical engineers care to elaborate?

Just finished grounding a bud's Golf 1.8 T. Way different ground points. He'll give me some feedback when he gets a chance to 'play'.

Re: Hyper-Ground Kit-Experiences, Feedback, Etc.

just installed gordgee's 5 wire kit. really simple, even a klutz like me did it in 20 min.

there is a definite increase in "smoothness" all through the rev range. Can't describe it better than that. No noticeable power gain, but the car just seems to run a little smoother.

I read somewhere once that spark plugs typically fail to spark up to 2% of the time. Maybe this extra grounding reduces non-spark events?

Re: Hyper-Ground Kit-Experiences, Feedback, Etc.

Glad they went in for you no problems. Any other impressions please post. Not sure about the spark plug theory, but it makes some sense if true. But Hyper-Grounding should work then for those engines with less electronics as well. Anyone know?

BTW, got some feedback from the VW 1.8 T guy. He says definitely makes a difference with his idle- much smoother and less tach variance. Notices "less lag getting to 6000 RPM, and the throttle seems more responsive. Also with the A/C on, less effect on the engine and more power."

Anyway, that's the first feedback that I've had from a non-VQ engine, and grounding looks to be a good mod so far.

I noticed most of these posts are for the Sedan. Does the same kit fit the Coupe? and are 7 wires needed for the 6MT?

Same kit fits the coupe. As far as I know, you probably won't derive much benefit from the 7-wire kit on the 6MT. You might consider 6 wires, but again, I'm not sure if you would notice the difference. I believe that BillR has added only the 6th wire from z-xtreme (insaneamine) to his 5-wires. He hasn't posted his impressions about what this does. You could PM him and ask if he notices a difference over the basic 5.

Re: Hyper-Ground Kit-Experiences, Feedback, Etc.

Got an installed my kit today (7 wires from gordgee). Took about 1 and half hours. WOW. I was somewhat of a skeptic, but NO MORE. I took a 20 mile jaunt from my neighborhood (25mph) to the highway (85 mph max) and back. Here's the things I noticed:

1) starts smoother
2) sounds smoother! very nice effect.
3) shifts amazingly! Shifting is a good 50% smoother and seems to happen faster.
4) manumatic shifting is quicker, not as much lag
5) shuts off smoother...

Best $100 I've spent on a car in a long time!

Re: Hyper-Ground Kit-Experiences, Feedback, Etc.

Hey all,

Any suggestions on what color to get for a DG Coupe? I'm thinking either silver or black. The silver's kind of plain looking, but I haven't seen the black in anybody's pics.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

The red goes nice with the engine cover bro. Nice contrast for the D/G and compliments the red on the cover:
