Like the others have said, you will pay sales tax when you register the car in Florida at the tag office. You will have to have the car inspected at the tag office. They mainly check the VIN against the title and make sure the car actually exists. If you report the sale price as too low for the value, the state will send you a letter asking for clarification. It happened to me when I sold a car to my mother with a family discount. So it will depend on how comfortable the seller will be with helping you fudge the paperwork.

Just to understand the process, he will put this amount on the title (he has title in hand) and sign it over to me? That is the number they tax me on? Is my bank involved in any shape or form?
