First of all I would like to say hello to everyone - I don't have a G35 (I have a 350Z) and I frequent the Z forums. Yet, I will be joining you all at Gainsville on the 3rd.
Now if you heavy VQ35 cars think you can beat a light one - you might want to rethink that . I will be bringing cash and taking names! Just kidding - It is going to be fun!

there are a lot of good tires, they just all cost a bit of money...
About these tires - they are great track tires (R-Compond DOT tires). You can run them on the street, but they are only made to last about 5000 miles. They also have a high temperature ideal operating temperature (great for track events - bad for the street).

yes they are r compound, meaning they are racing tires that have a little thicker thread and when shaved down to 4/32nds it leaves two, yup only two tread lines around the tire and the rest are bald. i am planning on putting these on some rims that i am not going to be driving around on the street.

i will use them for road course days so they should last me a while. i am still not sure what tire rim combo i want to put them on. i have some nismo lm gt4s and my stock rims. i would like to have the nismos on my car all the time and would like to have tires that will last a while. probably just put the "race tires" on my stock rims. not sure

and if you are referring to my car as the "light" VQ one, thanks, i think i could out drive them with three fat chics in my car.... hehehe sooo kidding, i would never have fat girls in my car.

2900 pounds daily driven w/o me in it, 2820 full race (drag) without me, it is pretty damn light for a Z...

edit- after rereading your statement, i think you just mean your car, now i am a couple hundred pounds lighter than your car, unless yours is really gutted out, so that would me you the heavier VQ car

Actually - I was talking about the G35 being heavier than the Z, when I was talking about the heavy VQ35.
But - 2840# for a Z! Wow - you got to let me know how you did that. I am just over 3000# w/o me in the car. Well - I guess if I didn't have the TT w/ IC, I probably be close to your weight.
Oh - are you taking out the Nitrous tank for Gainsville?

Used hoosier road race tires (245/35/18) for only $35 a tire. I was about to jump on it and mount them to my stock 18s, but it's another $50 for shipping. Since I would only use these tires once or twice, it's not worth it.

How much are your street tires worth? Probably - they are around $200 to $250/tire - that means $800 to $1,000. You will wear those down pretty good at one fast track day in the summer.

I think that for even two track days - the $200 for these tires would save you money in the long run since it would save you from buying street tires sooner!

This will be my first track day, so all suggestions are appreciated. This may be my only track day...so I'm not really worried on buying new tires strictly for the track. I'm planning on putting my stock 18s on with the 225/245 Michellin Pilot Sports. Just a random guess, they have 50% tread left. I know it depends on my driving, but with medium-aggressive driving, will I finish off these tires just on this upcoming track day?

At Talladega - it was 88F that day - and I was driving aggressive for 6 - 20 minute sessions. I was pulling rubber off my street tires and fender walls after each session, I think I wore more rubber off in that one day - than driving 7000 miles of streets. That what sold me on getting some track tires.

Wow...thats scary to think about. So you think it's worth it? $190 for the tires. $40 for mounting. $200 for the track rental. That's a grand total of over $400, not including gas.... Damn, why do I have to analyze my spending habits

Please don't bring up money spent on the car, you don't even want to know what I have spent! I could have a 350Z and a G35 for how much money I have in my Z!
If it where my money - yes $200 is worth the track tires. You will get the bug after this, so I bet you use them more than once!

cool man, yeah eric and i are definently going up there friday night. we were going to see who else wanted to go.

actually 2900 was with my stock seats, nitrous bottle filled, stock touring rims, 59 ea with tires.

as soon as i get lighter seats, and my nismo lmgt4s on i will knock even more weight off. my race weight NA was 2820 and i ran that 12.9 with 255 whp, it has sooooo much potential, it is still stock

and yes the nitrous bottle will be out

well.... first of all the bottle weighs 25 pounds. second of all i would have to let the car drop under 1600 rpms to switch my utec map to the retard timing map, i think a 150 shot is pushing the limits of the engine already and to drive it really hard all day and then throw some nitrous in it sounds like the recipe for disaster. my car is faster than all of yours without the nitrous anyways... i would bet its faster than dans WITH the nitrous....

and wes. you have a girly automatic. enough said there. plus i didnt see your name on the list.
