After seeing these builds, I really haven't seen anything that the new kit can do with the HKS designed SC over the initial Rotrex unit on the DE. Just confirms that I'm going to be best off spending my time and money on a custom Rotrex setup as I don't think the new HKS blower is really much more capable than the C30 they used from Rotrex.
Yeah, its a nicely designed kit, but other than CARB with the out of the box unit, I'm not seeing anything to really improve on some of the shortcomings of the original. GTM's Stage 5 is a lot of money and it looks like it'll just barely eclipse 400 whp on their Dynojet as its just under with the 5AT.

Too much money for 400whp??? Or not enough money out of your pocket to do it??
I did alot of research before pullking the trigger, even a damn stage 3 stillen is 8k now and days haha. Alot of people want to go FI but complaining about the #s they see on dynos for the price they pay, maybe thats why its mostly people that dont have FI saying it, i can guarantee you i dont regret 1 bit going this SC, if i went with another brand i be ****, but hey thats me

Oh, not at all. I'm a fan of the traction drive SC. Its just that considering the hype we all heard from HKS about their improvements of their traction drive over the Rotrex, I was waiting to see what kind of results were coming from the kit. Other than the traction drive itself being designed by HKS, I really am not seeing any substantial differences in the kit's design or features. It just looks like HKS put their new blower on the old kit, did a couple touchups and released with CARB.
I'm sure a revup stage 5 will show better gains, but I don't have a revup so its a moot point there. The main thing being that in an apples to apples comparison on non-revup's the new kit isn't showing an improvement in power delivery over the 1st gen kit.
I already have a gen 1 kit that needs a little modification and some replacement parts to make it work on my car. If there was a tangible improvement with this new kit, I would've gone with it instead. But since there isn't, I'm feeling that I'm going to go with the gen 1 and take it a little further.
Not saying its not a good kit. I'm saying that there's nothing here that I didn't see in gen 1 so its not that groundbreaking.

edit: Just read that you already own a gen. 1 kit that only requires a few modifications/upgrades to get up and running.
If Kraftwerks (using Rotrex S/C) ever made a kit for our cars however, that would be a much more viable and sensible option imo.

I think I'd only be getting the same results if I decided to stick with the Rotrex C30. Which is what I'm saying... There haven't been any results on a non-revup DE yet with this new kit that are markedly better than the similar setups using the old kit. The thing to keep in mind is that with the gen 1 kit, HKS would've spec'd out the compressor side if they didn't supply it and Rotrex would've supplied the traction drive. I would question if HKS changed the compressor design for the new kit. They really didn't change any of the other supporting parts or design. If the compressor side is unchanged or similar in design, you'd see similar output between the kits.
I have a full 350Z kit w/ a brand new Rotrex C30. I just need to replace the oil system and bypass valve then make a modification on the charge pipe for the SC and intake filter placement since I have the G35. Not to mention find a better filter than the mushroom cloud of death. That's assuming I wanted to use the standard kit as-is. I could, but I'm not leaning that way right now. Not going to get into a dollar and cents argument about what I've spent, but I can assure you that I'd have to drop a good amount in fabrication before I was negative on cost vs buying the new kit if I couldn't improve on the results.
Just to give you an idea what I'm looking at, the C30-94 which is what I'm currently holding (the SC used as the base for the HKS gen 1) is rated for a max mass flow rate of 0.37 kg/s, the C38-81 which I'd like to use, is rated for 0.55 kg/s, about 50% more airflow. The pulley side is identical and interchangeable. The only catch is the C38 is 15mm wider and 11mm taller, so the 6 bolt mount is spaced a little differently. That's about the only thing I have to work through and ensure I have that extra .6" of clearance for it. I'm also considering fabricating a new charge pipe to convert the draw through MAF to MAP, use a BOV instead of recirculated bypass and a larger intercooler.
In the meantime I'm going through OC documentation with my dealer and after that I'll determine when and how far I want to take.
^^ interesting...koo koo.....gl..
All i know for my own perception, hks = baller
And fvck it thats how i perceive it haha, always wanted hks things when i was a youngster in high school and now i got a hks sc, cant beat this feeling i have haha
