looking to go f/i
Hey guys my names Ryan i just joined g35driver. recently bought an 04 g35 coupe 6mt, looking to pick up a single turbo down the road. Just wondering what sort of mods should i do to build up the motor to handle the turbo. looking to gain around 400 hp. thanks for input!!
here is a very informative thread from my350z

400 hp isn't an unachievable goal, like you said, there are many stock block 400hp cars. That link I gave you will provide you with plenty of information.
besides the stonger internals (rods, pistons, crank..) you should upgrade the fuel system, ignition, intake, and exhaust. Gauges such as boost, air/fuel, exhaust gas temp are very handy. Also, datalogging equipment would be very valuable. Search around and make a shopping list.

Search the the boards here and over on My350z.com. Boost is a whole other world with these cars.

Don't be fooled- there is no one nice, or informative on the 350z boards.
I'd shoot for a 400-600 wheel horsepower goal. And I'd stay away from single turbos for that (at least the turbonetics one). Anymore horsepower is just a dyno queen.
And express has nothing better than to troll newbies threads- get used to that as well.

If you want more than about 400-430 hp, you should start by getting a built short block or long block.

Save your money. You'll need all you can get after the kit is installed and tuned for any issues that will occur in the months following "the jump".
Tune, tune, and tune again. Conservatively at first, once you get used to it, then you can start getting a little more daring. Respect it, it will respect you back. Spend the majority of your money in this area. It's not so much which kit to choose, but which tuner.
Spend a few months reading over EVERYTHING there is to know about your kit in particular before you go out and buy it (see My350z.com). While researching you may find the complications and lack of overall member knowledge on that particular item may outweigh the "pros" and change your mind about the FI you've decided.
Finally... just... good luck. LMAO! You'll need it with the hissy fits the VQ tends to throw

I agree with this. The majority of people going FI with G35s/350Zs seem to favor twin turbos over a single turbo for street use, although a minority still favor a single turbo. As for me, I went with twin Greddys and a built motor.[/QUOTE]
i completely agree with you i would love to go tt, however its just not in my price range. But again, thanks for all your input!

it all depends on how much power your want, you said you want around 400rwhp which is pretty easy to get w/ a turbo kit and a stock block
now, here lies the problem. 90% of people who say they want 400rwhp, once they get use to that power want more. I'm one of those people, i said anything btwn 370-400 would be enough and guess what, is not
so it really depends on you, if you think you might be a part of the 90% then build the motor first and then get what ever kit you want, it will save you money in the long run, trust me
def spend a lot of time on my350z, there is way more info there than here
