You say "...by the time I am done I will have spent a liitle more than the price of a new stock Corvette..." but I think you are using a little quite loosely there. I'd like to see what that "little" extra money would do in the Vette.
To give you an idea of how GREAT R-compound tires are:
On a dragstrip my STOCK 2001 Viper GTS ran 12.31@118.5 on a 1.89 60'.
Just by taking off the stock rear tires and replacing them with the Kumho Ecsta V700Rs (R-compound tires), my time dropped to 11.67@120.56 on a 1.68 60'.
The biggest improvement came from being able to nail the 1-2 shift without heading towards the wall.
Even when I launched soft on the Kumhos (1.8s) I still ran 11.8s@120+.
Imagine what that would do for you on a road course.
Dr Jitsu -
I had to buy it for that!!!

Ok, there was a lot of action here since I was last on lol.
- The tires were Dunlop Super Sport Race 255 F 265 R.
- The car was my 350Z before it went to VRT.
- The brake upgrades were Stoptech 2-Piece slotted rotors, Cobalt GT Spec brake pads, Wilwood 570 brake fluid, Goodridge SS brake lines.
- Tien Flex coilovers make a significan difference over stock and easily cuts 5-8 seconds off of the time.
- VRT just tested every aftermarket sway for tinsel strength and the 350EVO bars came out the weakest. I know I was suprised too. Cusco was the strongest.
- I only drove the Vette for one session per day. Had I driven it more, I could have beat the time in my Z.
- The question was about a stock 350Z and a stock C6 and my answer was that they just do not compare. The C6 will eat it alive.
- I hardly consider full suspension, minus camber arms, R-Compound tires, and upgraded brakes "lightly modded".
- The exhaust was an Injen SES and the HF Cats were Kinetix. Also forgot Injen intake, UR Crank Pulley, and Kinetix V4 Plenum.
- The Z weighed 3240 lbs with full tank of gas and no driver, it dynoed 256whp, but peak HP numbers are far less significant than you think. Its all about the power curve.
I hope I got to all of the questions.
