I'm new to the G scene and have been reading through this thread (and what a long thread it is....). Are there years (or engines) that are more prone to the oil consumption problem? I've read that the "Rev Up" engines don't have the problem? What are Rev Up engines and when were they produced?
I'm currently running an 04 G coupe w/6MT. Since first reading the thread I've been checking my oil fairly reqularly.
This is somewhat disheartening considering the fact I had a '97 Acura CL 3.0 since it was new (which I traded in for the G) and NEVER had to add oil to it. Of course it wasn't as exciting a car as the G but I never thought part of the excitement of owning one was having to worry about the oil consumption.

what about 07's? i just picked up my 07 on monday, and ive been checking the oil, but the dipstick is completely retarded and i dont know if im getting an accurate reading. hopefully this doenst affect 07 6MT's.

At first I thought the remaining oil was trapped somewhere in the engine because the front of the car was on rhino ramps. But that wasn't the case. The car had consumed the other ~3 quarts.

I have an '03 with 35K miles and just started burning oil - 4 quarts in about 2,500 miles - after switching to synthetic.

Just another quick update. I’ve had mine at the dealer since Monday getting the short block replaced. Dealer is super nice and helpful, but I couldn’t get Infiniti to replace the entire motor, in fact, their customer support line is awful – the young broad assigned to my case was very rude and made it sound like she’s giving me a favor by approving the short block replacement.
Car should be ready today, so we’ll see how it goes… sucks having to go through the break-in process again.

Great. I noticed a funky noise coming from the motor as I shut it off, but figured it was just due to weather or just blew it off as nothing.
I bought new so I wouldn't have to worry about stupid ****. Ugh. The wonder of multiple vehicles.

Well, I’ve got my car back yesterday. Dealer drove it for about 20 miles after the new short block install to check for any issues. All checked out OK and I thought I was done dealing with this BS. Not that lucky…
This morning I hear a ticking noise on the way to work and on the way back from work a new “chirping” noise, which I can’t identify where it’s coming from – all happening only while the car is in motion. Next, the previously pleasant exhaust note has now been ruined by what I can best describe as a “fart” sound which happens upon acceleration at around 3K rpms… it’s as if some more air gets suddenly pushed thru around that engine speed for a quick second. Lastly, now when I turn on the AC, the fan belt (from what I can guess) is squealing as well.
Of course dealer’s service is out for the weekend, so I’ll be back to diagnose all these new noises next week. Just wonderful… I'm starting to dislike my new car now

I started this thread in August and have been absolutely humbled and amazed at what it became. I never believed this problem would be so wide spread.
I am happy to say that I picked up my car from Infiniti of Chantilly with a new long block yesterday. I have to give my appreciation to the new service manager Steve Taden. He was able to adroitly handle a very angry customer.
I can’t begin to express my frustration with the previous service managers. Those guys would say anything to get me out of their hair.
I had previously been told three times that a new engine was approved and that it was on order. However, when I would come back they would look at me like they had no recollection of my problem.
Then they would make me undergo a bullsh*t oil consumption test until they re-diagnosed my problem and “approved a new engine”. When I would call for a time frame on the engine...you guessed it, no recollection of me or my problem.
And repeat...
