Wow, no kidding, not to mention it was at night time... I was under light but it was still difficult to see where it was supposed to go!

I keep my finger (on other hand not pulling dip stick) down near the base of where it comes out and let the stick bend around finger so it'll come up straight out of tube from engine and not smear too much on stick.

Yup it too is a pita to put back in without adequate light.

Wish there was an easy way to move it's location like where the new VQ35HR's stick is at.

My baby is now at the dealer. I am sad to not be able to drive her for a couple of weeks but happy that I will get her back with a new and improved powerplant. Time to take the 5AT sedan drifting!!

I would say break it in hard. I'm on my second engine which was broken in even slower than the first, and I'm at square one with the my oil still being consumed.

Maybe some one can teach me how to drive my car correctly. I've only been driving sticks for 15 years..

maybe you've been driving wrong for 15 years haha just kidding.
yeah that would be really frustrating. This oil consumption problem isnt present on 5AT's?

Yes some have been reported here and some on other old similar posts here as well.
Think back as far as 05 some guy had his VQ with 5at replaced cuz it was drinking up to 3+ qts per 1000mi. Non revup VQs are not immune to this issue. It seems to be mostly revup VQs than non-revups though.

FYI, my non-REVUP is drinking a quart every 500 miles. I finally told my dealership about it today and they will be doing some oil consumption testing after they've installed my new tranny in the next few weeks.

I know they'll see how much oil the car is burning, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed about whether they'll replace the faulty engine. So I've got two quesions:

1. Will they replace my non-REVUP with a REVUP (is that even possible)?

2. Has anyone had any bad experiences after getting all or part of their engines replaced after the dealer confirmed the oil consumption problem? I'd hate to push for a new engine that doesn't burn oil and get one that doesn't perform as well or has different issues. I can live with more oil consumption, just don't want additional probs.

Thanks and let me know,
B

ya know, stupid newb questin... what's the difference with the REVUP. From what i've read, it's new to the 06 models only (perhaps some 05), but what's so special about it?

so it's got nothing to do with driving stick... what's the revup engine anyway?

Ok...Non revup are the 280hp VQ's that are on all 03-04 G's and 05-06 5AT's. 07 5AT's too but with different hp rating due to new hp reporting standards.
But 07 sedan has the new VQ35HR, so don't include that model. I'm referring to coupes on 2007 with the VQ35DE.

Revup's are the 298hp found only on 05-06 and 07's(diff hp rating again) with all 6mt's.

So why call it revup? what does that mean? or is it just a slang term for the higher HP motor?

Good question and don't know that answer exactly.
But the revup's have a factory modified upper plenum compared to the non revups.
Thats about all I know on the difference, maybe chip tuned a little hotter too, idk.
But I do know the revups have less torque than non revups.

i've felt that...

so unfortunate as I'm so used to the VQ being a major torque monster....

I have a 95 maxima in my garage... the very first VQ!

Pop quiz: What was the code of the prototype version of the VQ and what car and year or years did it come in?
