Well I certainly hope you've got more upgrades than your signature shows for 8K or you got ripped off. Unless you got the light weight oil spacer that costs 5K, then that explains the difference.

Seriously though, if you like Infiniti, stay with it, just find one that doesn't have the problems your having. There are plenty of coupes out there without oil consumption or transmission problems. Just find a newer one and swap the 5K oil spacer over.

I would go out and buy a G in a heartbeat if I could be guaranteed that I won't have tranny/oil burning problems! I guess there really are no guarantees, but with so many similar occurrences of these types of problems across all G 6MT's (even bone stock models)...it's a crap shoot.

Anyway, here's a list of all my upgrades, including costs. I should note that I forgot to add my recent brake upgrade to my signature...as you can see everything adds up!

Upgrades list with cost breakdown:

Stillen CAI - $185
Chrome Z-tube - $65
Motordyne 5/16" Copper ISO spacer - $350
Strup headers - $1000 ($450 labor)
FI HFC's - $550 (installed with headers)
Stillen cat-back exhaust w/ Magnaflow 14" resonators - $1450 (custom welding)
AAM ECU flash - $500
AAM oil pan spacer - $130
Ultinon 6000Ks - $250
PIAA Xtreme 5300Ks - $75
JDM clears - $30
AVN5435 DVD/navigations system + Sirius tuner + JDM double-DIN kit - $1800 ($200 labor)
Armrest console retrofit - $200
OEM alum.pedals - $75
StopTech AeroRotors - $1500
Goodgridge SS lines - $140
Axxis Ultimate pads - $100

Grand Total so far: $8400

I have 20,500 miles on my 04 Coupe. Just checked my oil level after 5500 miles from the last change with Mobile 1 and the level is right on the full mark. Are some cars fine or do all G35s eventually have an issue?

6 years or 70,000 miles on the powertrain, whichever comes first:

well, i have a 2003 g35 64000 miles coupe and i also had oil loss problems. i told the dealership in san antonio and they replaced all the gaskits on the head and plenum area. it is still eating oil and i noticed a lot of black oil marks off the exhaust tips.(looks like the exhaust is burnt) i'm taking it in again to get it checked and i'm going to complain and recommend an engine swap. most dealerships should comply and if they don't, like everyone said, call corporate cause that can cause a headach for the dealership. my car has crawford plenum, jwt pop charger, apexi-n1 exhaust and suspension. been to 3 different dealerships and they didn't have a problem with my mods. even though my warranty is up, they gave me an extension until 70000miles cause of the engine work they performed. if you take it in early, you should get this bonus.

I just changed my oil yesterday and only drained approx 2 3/4 qts of oil. I will be contacting Infiniti Corp today and taking the car into the dealer for an oil consumption test.

I have this problem right now too...i've had it since i bought my car but it has gotten worse in the past 5 months. I took it in once before but they want you to bring the damn thing in every 1,000 miles to check it and my dealership was soo busy all the time it was such a burden. Now i have to before my warranty is up. i'll be scheduling an appointment this week and i'll keep everyone updated on my problem/solution. i have to go to Costa Mesa, Infiniti. Cheers!

Perhaps im misreading the thread, but im seeing much more than '2 or 3 people' complaining about oil consumptions.

Maybe its a good idea for someone to create a new thread containing a list of ppl who are having issues, and their status (oil consumption test, new engine on order, engine replaced, ) ..

I'm not denying that a "few" people have had oil consumption issues, but I think the rest is just paranoia. Just like telling someone your house is haunted, and surprise, they see ghosts. Let's think about how many people don't change their own oil, or how many people drive the hell out of their car. This all affects the supposed "oil level problem."

For the majority of '05, '06 G35 owners, the car is fine. This is the third car I have had with a the VQ35 in it. Until Infiniti releases official info on it, the problem only affects a very very tiny portion of G35 owners

Believe me, it's a lot more than just 2 or 3 people. I personally know 2-3 people besides myself that have had their engines replaced and I get PM'd all of the time on here by people having this problem. Don't forget, Z's also have this same engine and a bunch of Z owners have had their engines replaced also. Plus, while my car was at the dealer there was another car that they were finishing up on and another one that was going to be done after mine. That's a lot more than just 2 or 3 people. It's a serious enough problem that if you call Infiniti Consumer Affairs, they now about it.
