I have a 5AT.

On my last oil change I was 1 quart low.

Now I am using German Castrol 0W30 oil. I am taking my car in for SES light on Thursday. You guys think I should change the oil to 5W30 just in case the dealer tries to tell me something? Can they tell what viscosity oil I have in?

Actually she just said its with the VIN number and if i give her the VIN she will let me know if that particular car is the one with/without the problem.

Wow...missed the 411 on this. Who you call? Sounds like maybe they've narrowed it down to a time in production build.

+1, I'd like to know the same thing. If I can simply call in my VIN, that saves a lot of hassle with the oil consumption tests at the dealer.

I have been monitoring this thread since I got my 06MT in Sept 06. It seems I am also affected. I checked my oil and I am 1 qt low, it reads on the LOW mark. I am due to change my oil. Is ~1 QT low at 3,000 miles bad?

Every manufacturer has a limit on what is considered excessive oil consumption.
I have never heard of anything like a quart every 1500 to 3000 miles being considered excessive.
Only problem with the mfrs. 'limit' is that some cars barely make it, and others go 5000 with little oil loss.

Chevy used to be one quart in 600 miles was "excessive". I'll say...

No, you should not be worried. This problem is pretty much isolated to 2005 and up 6MT's. It's the RevUp engine in these cars that has been the problem. But Nissan/Infiniti has a new revised engine (hand built in Japan) that they are now starting to put in G's and Z's with this problem and it seems to have corrected the problem. I actually have one of these hand built engines and it seems to have worked. Over on my350z.com they are calling it the RevUp version 2.

Thanks, Hexx. A revised engine for the RevUp, eh? Hmmm . . . I maybe taking my car back for another oil consumption test, very soon.

And just SOME of the Rev-ups at that. Mine has 50K and it uses a half a cup or less between changes (7500miles)

^^^ Ditto...except I'm one of the poor saps that didn't quite make it consuming more than 1qt/1000mi to qualify for a new VQ. My worst was 1qt/1200mi. when new.
I'd be about 3qts low at your 7500 miles with my present consumption rate with 20K on odo. :sigh:

Hand built rev-up VQ's huh...
I want one...
Dammit...
Pleeeeze...

My non-revUP '03 6MT engine burns about 1 quart every 500 miles. Seems to have started after putting in the oil pan spacer and switching to synthetic...

^^^I noticed a slight increase in consumption as well when I switched to Syneth/blend.

Running 100% synth now (Amsoil 0w-30) almost at 1000mi mark for me to see where at on dipstick.
