Yep, never seen that light before this. It just went away today, so who knows... The thing I hate most about this oil consumption test is that I'm actually trying to put more miles on the car so I can get this taken care of sooner than later..

thanks man. we'll do!

3 separate tests? Does that mean that I have to put 3k miles on my car before they will authorize a new engine? Hopefully I can get that done before October. That's when my warranty expires.

I would think as long as the testing was started before warranty expires, you'll be okay, but
It'd be a test in progress even if warranty expires during testing.
If it ever becomes an issue and hopefully not for your sake, bring that point up if necessary.
Good luck with everything.

That's what I was told by the QC guy at the dealership that I went to and that's exactly what they did. After 3 oil consumption tests, Infiniti authorized a new engine and that's what I got.

Very true but not something you would want to do. I went to Circle Infiniti in Nj (highly recommend) and they told me the same thing... about 80% of 05's have this problem and about 95% of 06's do. They told me to come in for an oil consumption test to see if they have to order me a new motor and of course with my luck it turned out to be ok. so don't keep adding oil and starving your motor after 3k miles, go to the dealership and get the tests done and your going to get a new engine

Are the new motors any better than the original? Do they give you new seals, or do something different to correct the problem?

im monitoring my oil now and there seems to be no oil consumption problem as of yet.
I need to wait a few hundred miles to get an oil consumption test. I might do it if it doesnt cost me money/time. If it does im not going to do it.

well i never check my oil level due to the sh1tty dip stick, but i managed to get a reading on it today since this thread made me paranoid. If my level was right in the middle b/w the H and L, how much oil would that indicate ???

Oil indication at the "Low" mark is 1 quart low. So half way is 1 pint. Your good to go.

If you don't change your own oil, it's a good idea to check the level right after you have it changed. So of the places don't fill them all the way. That way you have a reference mark for calculatiing your oil consumption.

Does anyone else have trouble getting a clean read on their dipstick? Seems like every time I check it there is oil half way up the dipstick. It is not continuous, but I find it pretty difficult for such a routine task. Never had this trouble with any other car I have owned.

Yeah, it's difficult to check the oil once the engine has been driven. Best time to check it is right before firing the engine up every morning or wait until the engine has cooled down.

Just found out my car is consuming oil also. I heard a faint fluttering noise after I started my car yesterday and it went away as the engine warmed up. Is that the same thing as the rattling noise everyone is referring to? Is the rattling really obvious? I got home and checked my oil. It was about 2 quarts low!
