quick question for you everyone; I just purchased my G35 about 3mo ago and I know i'll be coming in for a oil change, etc. Is this something that they will automatically look for; so if the oil is lower then what it should be etc; they'll let me know and they will initiate an OC test or is this something I have to bring to their attention so they are aware of it, etc so they will look to see if it is consuming too much oil, etc?

Again; just purchased the car and the dip stick doesn't seem too low; inbetween the L and the H and it has about 2000miles thus far....definitely not one of the easier dip sticks to read

it's a 05 dessert plat 6mt with stone int. much fully loaded with only 18k miles on her; been wanting one ever since they came out and i FINALLY just got it like 3mo ago.

so with the OC issues; is that something that will be OBVIOUS as can be, etc or can it be a slow leak, oil consumption issue? I keep hearing about the OC issues and it just worries me is all. thanks again for the quick response and any help on this.

I have one just like it (sedan) and I don't use a 1/2 quart in 8000 miles. I change it every 7200 miles with Mobil 1 5W30.

I ran Dino oil for the first 10 K and then it's ben M1 since. I have 68,000 on it now.

Tip:

Until you know the oil consumption pattern, check it evey time you fill up. Once you establish a pattern, you can move to once a week or month, depending on how much driving you do.

The best way is to check it the next morning AFTER an oil change to get a "base line" level. Then check it in the same place, at the same time, each time.

cool....I'll make sure to do that after I get my first oil change. Unfortunately I don't drive it very often bc of the current gas prices...and I car pool...with 4 other guys (total of 5 of us) so it's become a w/e car quickly....which is good and bad at the same time. Saves the wear and tear on the car but I'm not able to drive it as much as I'd like.

When mine was new 1-2006, that's what I did as Texas mentioned. Then went to mileage marks to check how much OC. Found it's OC pattern/qt/mi and used my 'b' trip odo to remind me that getting close to quart low and time to add. As soon as TSB came out, I was on that like flies with you know what, being I finally qualified per TSB chart after waiting 2yrs for its release.

Update:

Went another 1240mi on this VQ and was 1/3qt (8mm) down.
Changed oil third time and will see how much OC in another 2K, which will = 3740mi total on replacement.
Hope it improves.

How are you riding it? Heavy and hard? or Refind and "proper?" I mean 1/3 quarts isn't too bad but how is it that there are still issues with A NEW MOTOR when there are G's out there that will go, basically, forever without burning a drop? How does that make sense? Are they TRYING to replace more of these motors? Hahaha

Refined and proper, though did about 5-7 times some aggressive spurts without lugging engine and stayed below 4k rpm to initially expand and seat rings. Once that was done, factory break-in procedures + no down shifting (engine breaking) and still using that method now with 1800mi on engine and will continue until the 3750 mark.

Been using 10w-30 oil for break-in and changing often to get rid of assembly lubes and metals as commonly found in all new, re-manufactured/rebuilt engines.

Will be taking sample of this oil in service when done for oil analysis to see what's going on inside...good/bad.

Hear you on the why still issues with a NEW MOTOR lol.
Heard some of these have no more issues, some OC at the start then improving to none and then some still complete failures weird huh?.....

^ Hopefully yours will be better than mine.
I am seeing a slight improvement trend between my frequent oil changes, so that's encouraging (I'm trying to stay positive here lol)

Ok, so I hav'nt read all 68 pages, but I just have a quick question...is this issue only with MT's, or does it affect AT's also??

Also some have said synthetic oil may have caused these issues...any truth to that??

Just asking because i just got my 05 brilliant silver AT coupe w/ 34,000 miles about a month ago, and i was about to change the oil over to synthetic but not sure if its worth the risk.

Thanks in advance

Most OC issues have been with the re-up VQ's with 6mt. Yours a 5AT which means non-rev up VQ and very low chance you'll have this issue ever.

Synth did not cause my OC. Mine had OC since new using dino. Switched to Synth at 15K with very little diff on OC issue. You'll be fine using Synth.
