How to correctly drive an MT.
With experience, you can hold the brakes and then quickly gas/clutch on a very steep hill. My problem is finding a hill.... but srsly. If there is room behind me, I'll hold the brakes and then clutch off, but if they pull right up behind me, I hold the hand brake and then clutch off, releasing the handbrake as clutch engagement commences.
^Back when I drove a MT, if people pulled to close behind me on a hill, I would drop it in reverse and show them some reverse lights... maybe a glance over my shoulder... they'd normally back off
Men i really want to thank you for this post, this saved me from looking like a total dumass when i was taking my uncles G to school. Most of the dudes that drive MT civics were talking **** but driving a stick G shut them up.
Okay, so I have a 05 6MT Coupe. And in June 2010, my clutch was slipping, so I had it replaced with the Exedy OEM Clutch + ACT Streetlite Flywheel.
Everything was great, but the only problem I had was after a few weeks of the replacement the clutch always got stuck to the floor which then burnt the clutch (because I could smell it) when I am driving in traffic and when the weather is hot. So I took it back to the dealership and they release the air in the valves and it never happened again.
So then a few days ago, I took my car back to the dealership for an engine replacement (Oil Consumption problem), then they called me and told me that my clutch needs replacement soon, but not soon maybe few more months. So I was like, WHAT? no way because its only been 6months since I got it replaced.
I don't think that it is my driving habits, because I never ride the clutch or anything, and I never do hard launches or race people, and whenever I downshift I always "REV-match". So I was just wondering if you guys know what my problem is, how come I need a clutch replacement so fast, am I doing something wrong?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated, Thankss

It sounds like the dealership screwed you in the first place. With the whole clutch to the floor then all the sudden they magically make it go away. You burnt that thing up with the clutch to the floor. Or you didn't give your clutch proper wear in time before launching it around like a wild man thinking your G had all this extra power with a new clutch and busted it before you broke it in. Take it to a transmission shop and have them look at it before you go back to the stealership. My neighbor owns transmissions america, when mine acted up I took it to him and he said there was a bolt missing out of the flywheel and one bolt was hanging 1/16" out of the flywheel, the dealership was the only place to ever open the clutch and look at it when they did my burning oil engine replacement. They said, it is all ok. Well it wasn't so I went with the JWT Clutch and flywheel package. Hard to drive it so long without going over 4k RPM but I did it. Now it is great.
This thread is crazy! People had never driven a manual transmission but want to buy a 6MT Infiniti G35 to learn in? People should be learning the basic concepts of a manual transmission in a Geo metro 5spd or a old Honda Civic MT. G35's clutchs are worth as much as a old cheap car to learn in. Whoever's learning in a G, its your call. BTW to izzueeek , I would try to let the car heat up a little bit before operating, and try not going over 3k RPM's if you can for at least 1500-2000 miles. That way you give the clutch time to break in. Drive like you live in a retirement home in Florida.
