I've been pushing the clutch about half way down when shifting. The car shifts so much smoother when I do not push the clutch down all the way. I push it down just enough to feel the shifter back out of the gate and slide into the next. No need to push the clutch all the way down with the excessive travel. Pretty much the same effect as the "clutch stop" method.

Interesting, I'll have to try that. However, it seems to me that would put an unnecessary load on the syncros.

Regardless good post for new MT drivers.
Good writeup. Also don't ever use the clutch to hold you in place on an incline. I had to go off on a friend of mine for doing that in my mustang once, and when I see people doing it it makes me shudder.

As Jeremey Clarkson would say, "give me a proper gear box with a clutch, not some flappy paddle shifter".

Real men don't drive autos, unless it's a work car/truck.

^^ I don't bro... I think it doesint matter if you drive auto or manual its just a driving preference... I had a 5at coupe which I sold and bought a 6mt not cause I felt I would be more "manly" but for the enjoyment cause I love driving stick... And for some people especially down here in toronto / brampton as saach knows traffic is crazy... As much as people want manual they end up getting a automatic because they don't want to deal with a 6mt for commuting back and forth to work or whatever in a 6mt..but that of course you already s be an exception lol ... At the end of it I don't think it matters what u drive 6mt or 5at .

Put the clutch in, put the shifter into gear, smash on the gas pedal, and drop the clutch!

And to shift, with your foot on the gas pedal, do a quick stomp on the clutch pedal and change gears!

Clutch? Don't forget to change your blinker fluid and check your muffler bearings.

Oddly enough, running your blinker fluid constantly low will cause premature wear to the muffler bearings

Toronto has really bad traffic (I belive it ranks among the worst WORLDWIDE), I cant picture driving a mt if it isnt spirited driving, muchless in traffic. Funny thing is I learnt to drive on a mt.
