How to correctly drive an MT.
it's still a stiff clutch and still has a high engagement point. you just don't have that crappy spring diluting it. maybe someone already took your spring out saywat? cause if not, you aren't really feeling the clutch, i mean you are partially. but you get that stupid spring out and you REALLY feel when it grabs. and it's all clutch grabbing, no stupid spring.
i didn't mess with my cruise control stops. my car only has 35k on it, and the pedal wasn't sloppy after i took the spring out. i turned that silver linkage about 4 times i think.
you need to crawl under there and look, cause you might have the other version, which is mentioned in the first post of that DIY link i posted.
you take the whole spring assembly out.
like i said before, you can put it all back to normal if you don't like it. i've had the car since may. i only drive it on weekends when it's nice. whenever i drove it BEFORE the mod, i was constantly thinking about my shifts and my shift points and was chasing the "perfect shift"---after the mod, i've had it done...maybe a month now...it's totally natural again. i can just DRIVE. not worry about shifts or if i'm gonna be bouncing my girls head off of the headrest.
ALSO, I'M NOT TRYING TO THREAD JACK, SO IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS POST THEM IN THE DIY POST THAT I LINKED TO. I JUST WANTED TO LET PEOPLE KNOW THAT IT'S POSSIBLE TO CHANGE THE ATTITUDE OF THE CLUTCH/TRANNY...WHICH IS WHY I FOUND THIS THREAD CAUSE I THOUGHT I SUCKED AT DRIVING MANUAL.

see thats the reason why I dont want to do the mod. I dont want to mess up the adjustments after I take the spring out. Ok so which thing do I adjust; that silver rod or that nut??

am i the only few that actually likes and appreciates the kinda stiff clutch on the g35? i like the feedback and being able to feel the entire clutch and the clutch point. ive driven a 335 and the clutch is so soft i can barely even feel the clutch point. im guessing thats how most cars are? is that the preferred way? soft clutches feel gay as hell.
According to everyone else, removing the springs will give you a better feel overall and make it 10% stiffer.
Spring is an a** backwards spring and does the opposite of what you think When you are pushing in it is pushing back at you. When you are letting go of the clutch it is slightly pulling it back. All the sensation of the clutch and flywheel gets messed up since the spring absorbs the feel. Once you remove the spring you will have to push slightly harder on the clutch pedal and it will want to return back to normal right away once you start letting off (In no way does the pedal get softer, it gets firmer and any play in pedal can be removed by adjusting pedal height or slightly threading cruise control sensor down). The spring does me no good and on the first week of ownership that was the first mod I did along with clean clutch fluid and spraying wd40 onto the pedal assembly.
so what do I adjust after I take the spring out? The rod or the cruise control nut? What tools do I need for the adjustment (I have no tools and need to go buy some at Lowes tomorrow) And how do I change the clutch fluid? Does the clutch need to be pressed in for the spring to come out?
Really very simple to do and for clutch fluid you will want a turkey baster to suck up the old fluid from the reservoir and fill it up with DOT 4 Brake fluid. Once you replace the fluid go drive around like 2-3 miles and suck it up again. Keep changing clutch fluid everyday or every time you go out for a spin until you run out of fluid.
I truly think you should invest 45 min and try the mod and try it out for a week. You will get a real feel for the mod once you try it out and only lost 1hr of your life. I have had many people (7-8 G35/350z 6mt owners) try my car out and each of them agree that they are able to drive extremely smooth and worth the time. I have a definite feel for when the clutch/flywheel engages and have no jerkiness when starting in first gear of transitioning to second. If you try the mod and you think it is stupid and we are just a bunch of whining pansies then you can easily pop the spring back in.
By play, you mean the clutch feels loose at the top? So I just turn the cruise control nut a couple times to tighten it up? Do I turn the cruise control sensor nut right or left?

Saywhat....sorry man, but you just don't get it. You've never driven other manuals. If you have the opportunity to get in a mid 70s full size truck or dumptruck, hop in and push the clutch pedal. THATS a stiff clutch. This clutch is "softer" with the "assist" spring.
True, Almost everyone who has driven other manual trannys before, are hating the feel of the Nissan / Infiniti OEM clutch setup. There is ZERO feedback and it's just notchy as hell.
And I guess the "assist spring" is the problem. Also adding the high engagement point.

idk but i love the clutch. the only issue i have is the squeaking which every so often i have to spray the bolts with wd40. like i said ive driven a 335 and the pedal is so light i cant even tell how far ive pushed it down and cant even feel the the clutch grab. didnt like it at all but im sure its one of those things u get used to i guess. the owner tried my car and he was like "damn ur leg must be pretty strong by now" lol
^ BMW's have the same dual spring setup on some of their vehicles.
Here is a write up on some guy doing the spring removal to his m3... He also love the feel AFTER he removed the spring.

I will attempt to do this to my G on the weekends.
