How to correctly drive an MT.
In my Celica I used to shift in less than a second and didn't even use the clutch pedal. I miss that. Now I know the clutch pedel-less shifting is not going to happen in the G, but I was also hoping to engage the next gear much faster without jerking the car(UNLESS your RPMs are PERFECT). Funny thing is the Celica may have been just as bad, it just maybe lacked enough power to make you FEEL how far off your RPMs were.

This is a really good post for ppl who never rev match their gears. Ive been driving correctly from day 1 but ive had my transmission replaced once already and am currently hearing another noise that im going in for a checkup tmrw. Bottom line, infiniti transmission blows!

Wow ... I had no idea that a thread about changing gear would cause so much discussion, and as for Chili's assertion that ...
I'd say that there's a time and a place for everything ...
Serious question though. What are the options for levelling out the pedals for easier heel and toe changes?

I've been reading alot about rev matching when down shifting. Tell me if this is right.
I'm in 4th at 2k rpms and I want to downshift into 3rd. I would push in the clutch and shift into third. Now with the clutch still held in, I would blip the throttle to 3.5k, then let off the clutch and give it a little gas.
Is that the correct way to do it? I thought it was bad to hit the gas when the clutch is engaged??

Yup, pretty much.
Give it a bit of a blip as you are starting to let off the clutch and off you go.
You shouldn't have too many dramas changing down at that sort of speed, but I'd suggest getting plenty of practice, and start building up the speeds slowly before you try down shifting at 5k rpm.
The bad part about hitting the gas with the clutch in is that there is a danger of over-revving an engine, but as these cars have got rev limiters there is no drama ... other than looking and sounding like a moron when you completely screw up a gear change ... that can be damaging to the ego ...

Just to clarify, so it is okay to blip the gas while the clutch is held in? A "blip" would just be considered a very short, quick tap right?
