How to correctly drive an MT.

With a little finesse you can put it in first at almost any speed.
Sliq, yes you are lugging in second. I was just saying that you can do it.
I watched Jeremy on Top Gear take a ZO6 vette and start in 5th and go all the way to 160mph! 0-160mph in ONE GEAR!

Hai, I do believe 1st is syncho meshed. Or you might have a hard time up shifting also. I could down shift into 1st on my old maxima.
Now I think reverse doesn't feature a synchro though.

im not quite understanding how it works either. if the clutch is in, shouldnt
you be able to switch to ANY gear? for example, if you're going 90mph in 6th,
then you push in the clutch and keep it there, shouldnt you be able to
put the shifter into second(without letting go of the clutch of course
)? im not too sure how that works, is it that the speed of the transmission
alone will not allow the shifter to go into 2nd, which only operates up to 60mph?

Tex, u have never chirped 1st-2nd-3rd ever?

i just want to understand the concept.hey texasscout, what do u mean by even pressure, i meant that with the
clutch PUSHED IN can u put the shifter into any gear no matter the speed, as long as u keep the clutch in of course,or else...
Honestly it's probably better if you can't. IMHO the differential in shaft speed might be too high to get a good downshift. But you would want to be rev matching your downshift anyway (ie.. heel/toe) because when you lift the clutch, you'll feel a huge lurch.
