You missed a step in double clutching.
1. clutch in
2. shift to neutral
3. clutch out
4. while clutch is still out, shifter still in neutral, blip throttle/rev match
5. clutch in
6. shift to desired gear
7. clutch out & gas

Double clutching does still have its purposes.
1. It saves synchros.
2. It lets you downshift to first, which is when I double clutch (I also double clutch when dropping 2 gears out of habit)

Another thing about downshifting into first.
Cars with low torque, e.g. 4 cylinder cars, will lug in 2nd gear going at speeds lower than 5-10 mph, especially up an incline.
Help your engine out, downshift to first. Lugging is extremely bad for the engine.
+1 - on my last car (civic with gsr motor and trans) i had to replace 3rd gear and all the syncro's.... the guy at stick's only told me i could save my syncro's by double clutching.

also double clutching incorporates rev-matching - rev-matching alone will produce smooth shift but it won't save the syncro's (the layshaft doesn't come up to speed)

i'll have to try shifting to first while moving but im pretty sure i've done it while going around 10mph (with double clutching of course) - i don't do it often but when i need it wow it gives u mad power... love that first gear

ok i've been wondering for a while now... do you guys ever let the clutch all the way out when you're in reverse?

I've never had the courage to let it all the way out while backing out of my driveway, but I've just wondered what would happen if I let

it all the way out.

Like Klubbheads stated, if ur just backing up outta ur driveway, theres no need to. If you need to back up really fast and for a bigger length, you may release the clutch just as you would forward gears, and all control will be on the gas pedal. Be easy tho, reverse is a very short gear.

Is it just me or is this car extraordinarily difficult to downshift into 2nd gear when the transmission is cold?

Unfortunately for me my commute home is a slow roll but never really stops. I'll be going 30 then down to 5 then back up to 30. This goes on for 4 or 5 miles till I break free of the city. The car does not want to go into 2nd until I am nearly stopped. I'm going way too slow to be in 3rd, but it won't go into 2nd.

Is this normal or a sign that my tranny is going? I don't remember it being like this last winter. Although to be fair, I was driving with my wife and had to cut across town and pick her up, so by the time I got to the slow highway roll the transmission may have been warmed up.

I love the way this car looks and handles but the transmission and the pinging motor isn't leaving me with a warm fuzzy feeling for Infiniti

Start your car 2 minutes before leaving to work?....

Its definitely your car tho, I say you get it checked out before your warranty expires

Warming up the engine won't warm up the transmission. Only driving will do that.
