I put it 2 quarts and it's barely registering on the dip stick, if at all, hard to tell for sure. I was about to change the oil anyway. If I switch back to not synthetic will it help or am I screwed now??? Odometer says about 56,000 miles but I have about 18,000 on this motor.
Why the hell did you switch to synthetic? Also, check the oil to see how much is in there. But wait 10 minutes before you check.

You can always switch back to conventional oil. Even though there are "rumors" out there stating that's it's bad.

Anyways, if you are low in oil, then you are azzed out. Looks like Infiniti didn't revised the pistons or rings at all? They just tossed in the same motors, with the same problems and hoped for the best?

yeah... they even put back the same ac belt that is all cracked and falling apart. I just got new belts last weekend and was going to do that this weekend with an oil change.

I've used Mobil 1 in all my vehicles before and it's always served me well. I figured 18 months on non synthetic was "awhile". I don't really want to do another OC test thing again right away. I figure if it's got an issue I can beat on it for a bit before doing it. I'll just go back to conventional and see... I mean it can't hurt much at this point right?

I was wondering why my FI exhaust has got strangely quiet (compared to usual) just the last few weeks and now I'm thinking maybe it's all that oil that's been consumed. hmm...

Synth/Dino...makes no difference. Most Synths today 'are' dino based anyway (Group III). Food for thought on that 'old' myth

Low quality and/or defective rings = enough said.

There's still NO recall. File your complaints.

It is strange. I actually stated incorrectly previously that I got a shortblock. I actually got the full long block assembly in May 2009. If they are doing shortblocks now that is new. It never consumed after the switch that I noticed until switching to synth. But all the previous changes were being done at firestone and the last one I did myself... now my service records will have a gap. DOH!

I've been using conventional oil or syntec blend on all my cars. They served me well too.

I think synthetics are too thin for our cars. Especially since the VQ have crappy rings. If you're going synthetic, I think you should use 10w instead of 5w.

I had my engine changed out about 12k miles ago. I was using nothing but conv every 2500 miles. Then I switched to Royal Purple, it did burn some of that off but not much. Last weekend i went to Castrol SynBlend, My car loves it. Runs more smoothly and no more chatter. So far no oil loss. As far as the whole syn being dino (class 3) or whatever, I put my 96 Honda Passport back on the road for my 17 year old son, put a used engine in it with 59k on it. We used conv oil for first couple changes, then went to syn, there is an oil pressure gauge in the dash, it lost about 4 pounds of pressure going to syn from conv, so we immediately switched to Castrol Syn Blend and wow, there is my 4 pounds of pressure back. Syn is just too thin or maybe works too good for some cars.

There's been a TSB out since 2008 (with a few revisions since) that covers only the revup VQ.

Most recent TSB to my knowledge:
ITB08-002d.pdf

If your G35 is under the TSB, then 1qt/3000 mi is NOT ok.

As I said before. If you call Infiniti consumer affairs. Infiniti Consumer Affairs
P.O. Box 685003
Franklin TN 37068-5003
800.662.6200
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Eastern / Central Time / Pacific Time
Monday through Friday
8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Central Time
Saturday

File a complaint, then go to BBB.com and file a complaint, then go to the Fair Trade Commission and file and file a complaint. Then you must complain at your dealership also. Usually this gets them moving. The whole "set a fire underneath their a$$e$." It usually works. Except they did not do anything for my clutch. Well, they put it in for free but wanted me to buy a new clutch. They wanted lots for it, so I bought the JWT clutch and flywheel combo and told them it was better quality. Then phoned consumer affairs, they will warranty the work on my new clutch also.

Unless you have some kind of extended warranty the normal powertrain warranty is 6yrs or 70,000 miles.
