Welcome to the wicked world of the 1st Gen Dipstick. All of us have gone through the pains of checking our oil on our 1st gen G35s You can check it but it takes patience.

Thank goodness they cured that on the 2nd gen G35 Sedans.

oh god the memories

it has such a funky arch so its difficult to remove smoothly so the oil level is almost never readable

Yeah, I never really noticed it.. I just saw it and was like "oh theres the dip stick".. Until yesterday... WOW. Pulled it out and it wouldn't come out so i put it back in again.. Tried to take it out and I saw oil at the very top of the dipstick. I freaked out for 0.2 seconds when I realized the tip of the stick rubbed oil somewhere and the top picked the oil back up.

Probably another month of driving then its time for a change.

I agree it's not well-designed. Wait til you try to change your air filter.

I put in an intake so it will be easier... but I can tell you have to go trough a few things just to get to the stock filter.

You can't look at the oil when the car is hot, you need to let our cars cool down for a longggg time to get an accurate reading.

I check my oil in the morning when the car is cold, that way you get an acurate reading, not the bad reading you are probably getting from the oil that is still in the tube where the dip-stick goes.

its the most retarded design ever... the worst part of the car IMO. I love the 07> though - not only is it perfectly straight and short(er), it's right in front.

I guess the first genner complained enough for a redesign. Many nissan dipsticks are like this. +1 on the air filter I think it's a tie between these 2 for stupidest designs on the G
